They would never criticize Viola Davis!!!At least not by the same people who criticized TH (of course, extreme right wings would do!) He was accused of being a "white saivour" What would say about her?
Still there are ways of doing political speeches. BC actually did one for Palm Springs Festival and it was very well received. Even when there were some criticism for the way Weinstein campaigned for TIG using gay rights by then. I read comments in gay publications criticizing Weinstein methods but praising BC's speech.

I don’t watch award ceremonies because more often than not I find the speeches utterly cringeworthy. I think the collective term for a lot of movie types together at award ceremonies should be “a self congratulation of artistes.” Those events do tend to bring out the worst in the attendees. And don’t even get me started on the faux teary standing ovations or the scripted banter. If hell exists then, for me, it would be being trapped for eternity in the audience at the Oscars. 😱

I used to like the montages and when they did homages to old stars or mythic directors. Sadly they decided those things weren't necessarily anymore in the main event. So yes, we only have new stars doing long speeches!
Two decades ago political messages were so odd that people were genuinely impressed when someone dared to say something "important".
