Scott Foundas is with Amazon studios now. Sad he isn't working as critic anymore! He is one of the most intelligent and informed reviewers out there! Anyway good for him!

He might want to see more, but there's not a proverbial snowball's chance that I'll see something described as "beyond extreme and gross", even if it's thought to be fantastic for the genre. I don't mind unrealistic fun horror, but I absolutely loathe horror that's genuinely stomach turning horrifying horror! Interesting that BC specifically mentioned horror with musicals as genres he hasn't touched yet, though (albeit backed out of Crimson Peak obviously), I wonder if that reflected his Guadagnino film coming after "Suspiria" at all?

I don't like gross stuff either. The original Suspiria only has one scene I'd describe as horrifying and it's the scene with the wires. That had me so on edge. I think the use of vibrant colors and the soundtrack are what make it such a frightening and disturbing movie, not bodily fluids or other nasty things. This doesn't sound too great in my opinion. Not that I think Guadagnino should have copied the original but still.

There is a Giallio movie, I don't remember the name nor the plot, but there was this scene in which this guy with telekinetic powers or something kills a couple with them. It's obviously more explicit with the woman. There is all kind of weird (inexistent) fluids coming out of her. It's absolutely disgusting but also totally fake and unbelievable! Maybe he is homaging other Giallio films with that scene!
IMHO the most shocking scene in the original Suspiria is when the guide dog attacks the blind man. You can actually see his throat being teared. Or at least I remember to have seen it! (Maybe I imagined!).

Oh yeah the dog scene is pretty grotesque! But I guess the fact that it's from the 70s helps, cause it looks so fake that it unavoidably comes across campy rather than realistic in our current era of special effects. I don't watch many horror films cause it's not really my genre, but I do like Suspiria. I like the atmosphere.

I don't watch many horror films cause it's not really my genre, but I do like Suspiria. I like the atmosphere. Agreed. A lot of the bloody scenes look campy nowadays but I remember until recently people wrote about the (in)famous scene that ends with a girl hanged as one of the most disturbing ever. At some moment we see her heart meanwhile she is brutally stabbed. It’s not very shocking today but I remember having read descriptions that made it sound like something very sick and twisted. They weren’t very different to the reactions above. It’s crazy but Suspiria was considered a brutal film. I guess that shocking effect was what Guadagnino tried to achieve with that scene. It would be interesting if he also achieved the poetic quality and yes, the creepy atmosphere of the original movie.

It looks brutal: I think that’s a reference to the original movie showing internal organs in the bloody scenes. Of course, nowadays the old F/X doesn’t look very realistic but it should had been something very shocking then, Actually that image doesn’t look very realistic neither but the effects are, of course, better and it’s kind of poetic in a disturbing way.

I'm a little pessimistic right now about the Cumberbatch-Gyllenhaal project. I read somewhere Guadagnino has an event in Rome next month so he won't be in Sri Lanka soon! Someone said his name is not included anymore on IMDb page, which it's not very trustworthy source but add to the event and the other cast members imminent projects and who knows!
