I saw the Suspiria trailer on tv, and there was nothing about it that made me want to see the whole movie.

I hate him doing that! The other day he wrote something about a blockbuster that is still in production that he heard it was bad. He didn’t say the name so people were guessing but they were ready to discard it! A movie that’s not even finished and that they aren’t sure which one is!
Having said that I read a tweet by a formal critic which sounded like he was suggesting Suspiria was indeed bad or at least boring. It was veiled. It could be just a joke about the posters but I immediately thought that if he already watched it then maybe he didn’t like it.

I haven't search for reactions but it seems Scott Foundas liked it:

I haven't search for reactions but it seems Scott Foundas liked it: EDITED: Ok. I just remembered he works for Amazon now! That explains the "we"! Sorry! I can't wait for the reviews anyway!

There is some speculation that BC could go to a premier with a probable future director (Guadagnino) and a friend (Thom Yorke) but he has also said he doesn’t enjoy horror movies and this one seems very disturbing! (Although they always say things like this with new horror films!)

But it wasn’t just and Sophie Hunter but ALL Letters Live entourage. Both Adam Auckland and Shaun Usher posted photos from inside and there were other people with them, too. If that’s true then the cooks worked extra!

I don't know why but I just watched this film. Just two years later!!! I seemed very excited with this film on the comments above! Maybe unconsciously I was extremely disappointed with Guadagnino quitting Rio and just ignored the movie even when it was there on Amazon all this time! Anyway, it's very disappointing. It's boring and all over the place! The comments about the scene described in the OP is as always with Film Twitter, pure overreactions! It's not that memorable. Actually I don't think there is real memorable horror scene in it! I'm not an Argento fan but even with the fake blood and guts his film was full of memorable creepy scenes! Another thing I didn't understand is why after all the talk about it being a film full of women, the main character is a man. Ok, he is played by a woman but still! It seems to me that the psychologist is the one with traditionally hero role. He is the one investigating what it's happening inside the school! If I remember well, there was a romantic interest in the original film and an old male historian but the main character was clearly the young American female student. She was the one trying to understand the place and the women in it! Guadagnino totally changed her role here but instead of making her more interesting or stronger or whatever he was trying, he made her an uninteresting void in the middle of the film. No spoilers but if she is the "mystery" to solve then we actually never see the movie through her eyes and we don't! She is just there! The friend played by Mia Goth substituted her to certain degree but mostly is Tilda Swinton as an old man! At certain point I was wondering why the film centered so much on his story when it wasn't relevant to the main plot but at the end it's clear to me that his story was kind of the main plot! It's not about witches nor dancers nor "mothers" but about a man tormented by his memories and his lost love. It's about him failing to save the girl... twice... or thrice! And then saved by the gift of the oblivion! Thanks to the boring "good" witch!

I just rewatched the original film and it's so silly but at least it's fun! The performances are very bad with probably the exception of the main actress (who also has a small role in the new version). That's the thing the new movie is superior: the acting.
I think my favorite part is the music. It really helps a lot with the mood of the film. I know Guadagnino had Thom York but the original was so campy and melodramatic! It's difficult to forget it!
There is not a male romantic interest. Miguel Bose flirts with the American girl but then he just disappears. I was thinking on the friend's friend. A slightly older guy but he just appears in one scene. That's the same case with the old man. A psychiatrist as the "new" old man not an historian! He is also just in that one scene. He explains something about witches and then disappears! So yep, the original movie is much more about women than the new one! There is nothing bad with that and again the old guy is actually played by an actress but it's perplexing that Guadagnino kind of tried to sell it as a more female centric than the original one! Or maybe I misinterpreted him!
