I know this has already been posted, but I'm giving it its own thread because it became a Twitter Moment today. The reactions are mostly positive, but some people are disagreeing with him. I think they're misinterpreting what he's saying, though. twitter.com/i/moments/995428869896220672

Yes, they are. They think he’s saying everyone should get the same pay, including crew and extras, which is not what he said. He was talking about equally billed female stars. It’s a classic example of people not being able to think critically.

And some people are saying that he's willing to get paid less just to be equal to his female co-stars, so it won't really help those women earn more money. But I don't think it works that way! I think his agent (or someone) negotiates his pay for a role and he accepts it - on the condition that he finds out how much they're paying his female co-stars. I think the point is that it's always been so hush-hush and secretive but it shouldn't be. The film industry gets away with paying women less because nobody talks about it out loud.
I'm guessing that the huge differences in pay happen only with the big stars getting top billing, while everyone else is probably paid the same. Benedict is referring to those top-billed roles where the pay differences occur.

I'm sure you were all wondering what Piers Morgan had to say about this! His opinion doesn't get much support, thankfully!

Now he is bad actor! If I don’t agree with you then you aren’t good in your work! LOL I saw a Twitter saying that surely he wanted to work with women like Jodie Foster or Sandra Bullock because they are much better paid than him because they are much more popular and someone answered when was the last hit of any of them! Bullock surely is much more popular but Foster, who is great, hasn’t have a hit in years! I’m sure kids are much more familiar with BC.
It’s a very complex theme and there is a little of taking the quote out of context and run with it with these new wave of articles but it’s amazing how factions react in a hysterical way! I tried to maintain an open mind with the recent scandals and reading all kind of comments even by people I don’t like and it’s fascinating. Yes, there are female superstars who surely are paid much more than a lot of men; yes, these are very rich people gaining exorbitant sums of money so it’s difficult to feel bad for a female star when you are a very poor guy with a miserable salary and a hard work but it’s naive to not see there is indeed a pay gap. I mean I understand why Mark Wahlberg is paid much more than Michelle Williams (yes, she is more talented and not an unknown like some people said but he attracts a bigger audiences) but at the same time what her agency did with her was a betrayal: they told her they all will re-shoot for a basic salary when the same people were actually negotiating a millionaire salary for him; Matt Smith had a slightly bigger profile before The Crown success thanks to Dr. Who than Claire Foy but was really he a big factor in attract audiences to something so different and when he was used less in the promotion than te female star. He didn’t have the blame (as some people believed!) but the system of paying someone according to their last work even if the new role is much more bigger that dominates TV networks (and it also happens with men but it’s more difficult for women because there are fewer material for them). It would be great if there were a serious layered discussion of these things but instead people are saints or villains for daring to have an opinion!

Thats not what Benedict said ? Benedict said it more in general terms as in WE the business need to demand equal pay. Not that he will demand it and refuse any role for this reason.
The fact that he is using SunnyMarch to do exactly that speaks volumes.

One of the comments below that Piers Morgan tweet is by a woman saying she is boycotting BC since he called Hamlet’s audiences “c***” !!! LOL I think that tweet perfectly shows how the dissemination of information works on Twitter!
Remember when Morgan’s wife wrote a bad Hamlet review BEFORE watching it: the main point was that someone popular couldn’t give a good performance anymore because people know who he/she is and can’t transform himself/herself anymore so as BC is famous she didn’t needed to watch him to act to know he won’t be good in the part!!! This obviously was after according to Morgan, she overheard BC saying how much he despised her husband in a party! LOL

Piers Morgan has it in for BC ever since he overheard him saying he didn’t like him at some event. And ever since BC appealed for help for Migrants he has been public enemy No 1 in the right wing, Brexit supporting, sections of the press and social media. He would be more popular if he just kept his mouth shut and stuck to acting but that’s not him and I’m glad! I think it’s hugely to his credit that he has such a well developed social conscience. But there is no doubt he has paid a price for it with certain vocal sections of the public who are either ill informed or who deliberately misinterpret and sometimes downright lie about what he says.
