I agree, HG was a terrific evil actor!

Yes it was. Sad too. Ben Whishaw looks so vulnerable as Norman Scott that you feel so sorry for him despite a lot of the scrapes he gets into being his own fault. Like what on earth possessed him to trust that guy who spun the tale about the hit man and to ruin his relationship with the Welsh woman and his chance of his story being believed and acted on by unnecessarily blurting out that he still loved Jeremy Thorpe at the meeting in the House of Commons.

Norman had mental health issues according to dreamsincolour who wrote: It is very strange that a smart guy like Thorpe thought it was easier to quietly murder Norman than to give him the damn card. Maybe it is too farcical for the theme and for a real event where one of the people involved is still alive.

The thing is those farcical things actually did happen.

I saw in another interview that he is happy with it overall but didn’t like that they made him out to be so weak. He said he was much tougher than the series portrays him, which I suspect is true given that he took on the British establishment in a court case knowing how he would be treated.
He had some quibbles about the places they have him living (he says he never lived in a caravan for example) and that the Welsh lady was not the hippie type portrayed in the show
In general though it seems to be a fairly accurate account of what happened, bizarre though it may seem.

I watched it today as I wrapped Christmas presents. I loved it! I kept wondering, though, whether it was intentionally supposed to be that funny. I laughed out loud through most of it. Every time Norman cried, it was hysterical! My one small complaint was that it was too short. The ending was quite abrupt. I could easily have watched another episode or two. I still think that Patrick Melrose was much better - if they’re going to be compared. Hugh Grant is always good, and I can understand why he would win awards for this performance. But Benedict was better!

I kept wondering, though, whether it was intentionally supposed to be that funny. I laughed out loud through most of it. Yes, it was intentionally funny. It was at the same time very distressing. It made me question why I was laughing. Every time Norman cried, it was hysterical! Sometimes. The scene in the bathroom at the court was heartbreaking. Hugh Grant is always good, and I can understand why he would win awards for this performance. But Benedict was better! Ben Whishaw >>> Hugh Grant. It is on the BBC iPlayer till tomorrow (first episode).
