Yes, of course - I wasn’t referring to the bathroom scene.
I liked his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, where he confirmed that yes, the script was meant to be hilarious at times. I’ve never seen him in anything before and I wondered if he was a bit of an oddball in real life, too. And he seems to be a bit! Ha! I like him, though, and I’ll look for him in other things (although not Mary Poppins, which I don’t want to see).

I finally saw this and while it was very entertaining, it couldn't hold a candle to PM, IMO.
Yes, Hugh Grant was delightfully not his characteristic "foppish posh boy" and very good in his role. And it did have a comic flair that I only found occasionally irritating. But overall, when you look at this series and compare it to Patrick Melrose... well, I don't see how anyone could think this topped PM in any way!

It was seen by more people than Patrick Melrose and it was much more easy to watchl I remember I thought PM didn't have an opportunity against this with awards when I saw a tweet by a The Guardian TV critic saying she hadn't finished PM because it was very painful to watch! She was the specialist and found it difficult!
The same with the very mediocre Versace! The worst part was that Emmy voters weren't obligated to actually watch the stuff that year!
Grant is always great playing bastards! The surprising thing is that if he doesn't win the Emmy, he won't receive any important award for this.

Looking forward to the second episode of this on Sunday. Meanwhile I watched Paddington 2 during the week. Ben Whishaw is terrific as Paddington (well, as Paddington’s voice) and Hugh Grant was hilarious as the villain. Seeing them together again in something so different and so much darker just makes me more impressed with both of them as actors. Hugh Grant has been doing interviews lately for The Undoing, and they always ask him about Paddington 2. It was finally on tv yesterday so I watched it. I thought it was just as sweet and adorable as the reviews said. Hugh Grant was hilarious. His scenes with Paddington were a bit startling because I couldn’t help but think of his scenes with Ben Whishaw in A Very English Scandal! There’s a scene in Paddington when the camera shows us a table full of framed photos of Hugh Grant, and I’m certain that they’re all from movie roles he’s actually had over his career. Ha!

You’d never look at Hugh Grant and think “That’s a funny guy”, but in fact he’s hilarious!

He has always been very funny and sarcastic. Very far away of his role as shy awkward British guy.
Paddington movies are lovely and wonderful

He’s an odd man irl, but yes he is hilarious. Very droll, sarcastic & cutting at times. I’ve really grown to appreciate him over the years. He’s a very good actor, too, despite how he got trapped into romcoms over and over again through the years. In Bridget Jones when he came out of that elevator at the beginning with a wicked, smarmy look plastered on his face you just instantly “got” his entire character, and I thought that was a brilliant little piece of wordless acting.
One of my favorite roles of his is the trembling, delicate Chopin in Impromptu, all these many years ago, with Judy Davis (😍) as George Sand, the sexual devourer of artists, lol. Great stuff, a movie *packed* with awesome stars.

He is a fantastic actor. More than what idiots gave credit him for and it's very clear right nowadays but he is also a prick. I mean he cheated his girlfriend with a street prostitute! (By the way, I am glad the woman actually benefited with the scandal. Apparently she made a lot of money selling interviews and that helped her to left the streets and having a good life so good for her!).
So yeah, he was always more edgy that people thought he was! LOL

I think he can be quite grumpy in real life but I think he’s basically an ok bloke. He’s done a lot of good work for various charities and on putting an end to unethical practices by journalists. He was young and new to fame when the Divine Browne thing happened. I put it down to a moment of madness no doubt fuelled by drugs or alcohol. I think they both benefitted from it. Divine made a better life for herself and HG listened to the wake up call it gave him and grew up.
