Like these people criticizing him have any talent of their own. 🙄 I guess those who can’t do, criticize. What is this thing with people trying to script their life experience instead of just enjoying what’s offered? I’m thrilled he’s doing something different. It has to be fulfilling and interesting for him, too. Otherwise he could just “be” Sherlock for the rest of his life, and he’s too curious about the world to want to do that. He’d get bored and give up acting. And nobody wants that.
Well said QZ! This ought to be cast in bronze and chanted as a mantra.
I don't understand those type of people either.
It's like they don't want someone who is a hugely expansive talent like BC to ever go beyond a certain myopic "boundary" that they have set for him.
1)They want him forever to be locked into a Sherlock "rut" or some variation thereof.
OR
2)They never want him to do anything except with his own accent.
OR
3)They want him to do nothing but Hollywood blockbusters (and consider that the ONLY indicator that his career is successful).
OR
4)They want him to do ONLY indie, art-house films and consider franchise work a "waste of his talent".
OR
5)They don't want him to do TV - ONLY films because somehow TV doesn't make the "grade".
And the confining, restrictive definitions just never end...
Meanwhile, BC appears to be someone who just want to do it ALL. I think the man operates on a principle of no constrictions to yourself and just see what you can accomplish. There is a restless, creative energy about him that seems to be fed by doing things he perceives as different and challenging. Without this need being fed he would be bored, I think.
He seems to have an absolute, unfettered passion for acting in all its forms - be it on stage, in films (both big and small), in TV, narrated materials, voice overs, serious documentaries, audio books, commercials, silly skits and animated work... I think he just loves to explore what he can do with his voice and body.
And for someone to wish that he constrict himself to a highly defined "box" of any kind... well, it just goes against the grain of who he is, so it just isn't going to happen IMO. That's like spitting into the wind - it is bound to be a disappointing and fruitless endeavour.
Everyone has "favourites" when it comes to forms of entertainment - I understand that completely.
I'm not a big "fan" of comic book films or animated films. But I can really appreciate BC's efforts into these genres all the same because I know he is enjoying himself when he chooses to do them. And I would never wish that he not do them because it is all part if his widely varied tapestry and I just love witnessing him create it.
And that goes for his non-acting efforts as well. I am anxious to see what he can do with SunnyMarch when he isn't in an acting role and just wearing the producer's hat. It's another creative outlet for him and I find that very interesting. The End We Start From is one such project that holds a lot of promise.
The man IS madly talented in sooooo many ways!
