With the Grinch coming out, I’ve thinking about other Christmas movies.
I’ve lost count of the number of Hallmark tv Christmas movies I’ve watched since Saturday. It looks like they’re going to show them all day and all night until Christmas. It’s interesting how they all follow the same formula. Just swap out the character’s name and cool job (decorator/architect/pastry chef/writer/doctor/advertising executive/flight attendant) and you have a new movie!
Each movie has at least one scene where the couple (who don’t like each other at first) stroll along the street of a quaint village all decorated for Christmas. And at some point the guy makes a snowball and throws it at the girl. She squeals and giggles, and they have a playful snowball fight. And fall in love, of course. It’s funny how many of the movies have the girl responsible for organizing some big Christmas party/festival or other event.
As predictable as these movies are, there’s something very soothing about them, too. It’s all going to work out in the end! I actually think I’ve been calmer and in a better mood since I’ve started watching them! Ha!
So what are some of your favourite Christmas movies?
Of the tv specials, I never miss How The a Grinch Stole Christmas (really!), Frosty the Snowman and Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer. I love Love, Actually (although not technically a Christmas movie). I discovered Arthur Christmas on Netflix a couple of years ago and it’s now on my all-time favourite-movies list. And there’s the sweet Stick Man (with Martin Freeman) that I watched on BBC last year.
