Yay! The Child in Time has been nominated! It deserves much more recognition than it received.

Isn’t it great? The two first SunnyMarch productions! It’s a shame that they are both kind of underrated, too. This one much more than Patrick Melrose although I think probably more people watched this thanks to that it was transmitted on the BBC.
I think it’s because they are both very challenging and not easy stuff which it’s actually something very positive. Good for Sunny March daring to do different and difficult stuff.

Every scrap of recognition that these two productions get is sooooo well deserved! And I totally agree with you about TCiT being underrated. It was so beautifully filmed and acted. And they both were very challenging material - they demanded actual concentration. There are moments in TCiT that just broke my heart (the principal's office scene for one!) and yet the film wasn't a downer at all and I felt elated in the end. And such beautiful acting chemistry between the BC and KM!! Whenever anyone accuses BC of scenery-chewing I just point them in the direction of TCiT for some of his most controlled, subtle acting he has ever done. I have to say, these two productions (TCiT and PM) along with his RIII are definitely my top three BC works of all time!

Re: scenery- chewing. I love how he does this. Absolutely love it. He can go so big and broad, but he can also get very subtle and you really have to pay attention. Plus, he’s so British about it, like Larry Olivier, one of the great scenery chewers of all time. Just like a cat licking up the cream, enjoying the hell out of it. That’s one aspect of his range that I adore. And those two SM productions are like polar extremes in that regard, so I’m immensely pleased that’s they've both been nominated. I hope SM are proud of themselves. 😃

Remember when he hosted SNL? People generally hated the episode, but he was wonderful! He threw himself completely into every silly sketch they gave him. I’ve watched that show for decades, and big movie stars are often terrible on it because they’re asked to do comedy - in front of a live audience. So you see them straining to read cue cards and certainly not “acting”. But someone made the comment that Benedict was doing Shakespeare in those sketches, putting so much more into them than they even deserved. It wasn’t the first time that he’s been the best thing in a show, no matter how small his role is. No wonder directors love him! He makes everything better.

IMO he seems to treat every role, no matter how big or how small, with the same level of the highest commitment - even the skits from SNL or things on Jimmy Kimmel etc. It's one of the things I admire about him. He has such respect for all forms of his craft and it shows. It always ticks me off when some people disrespect his voice over work as if it is beneath his talent and he is being wasted doing it. It's all part of his profession and should be treated with respect as far as I am concerned. He truly is a "thoroughbred racehorse" of an actor! Like you said, no wonder people from every aspect of his profession (be it stage, film, TV, radio, voice work, commercials or mocap) want to work with him!

It lost to Killed by my Debt, also by the BBC. Actually the BBC is practically winning everything!
