I just saw this tweet
And this theory about Hollywood stars generational gap:
I think the Internet theory is interesting especially when I remember that there were people actually angry at BC for jokingly moaned about chamomile not being real tea! I still can't believe it! What if poor Jake was attacked in the past for talking about his favorite sandwich?! And these people criticing him for not being silly enough! LOL

That Jada woman is all that is wrong with journalism. Perhaps entertainment journnalism.

Probably she is joking with that over the top tweet but entertainment journalists have indeed a lot of blame in why celebrities are more guarded now than ever.
The click-bait headline, the out of context quote and the malicious comments are becoming very common nowadays.
I think Marvel and Disney encourage their stars to be silly during promo tours.
I know Gyllenhaal is promoting the Spiderman movie right now. I haven't read interviews but based on photos it seems to me "he is playing the game". I read he even opened an Instagram account and is sharing videos with Tom Holland. I remember some people used to say that Marvel asked its actors to be on social media. If true, they didn't convinced BC!

I wonder if they had told BC “you can be Dr. Strange but you have to do Twitter” whether he would have turned it down. 🤔

I don’t know if it’s true. Fans used to say it!
I actually think social media is a big mistake for celebrities. There are a few who managed it well but even the harmless popular account are sooner or later accused of something!
And I have seen, for example, Extreme Brexit pundits attack fan accounts as if they were BC! One LBC’s host used to call fans “coward” because “he” didn’t dared to go to his show to defend his pro-refugees, Remainer posture! Then when he was blocked he made fun of “him” and called him “coward” again! Then he did it the same with another account with Cumberbatch name on it! It’s insane but reality doesn’t have a place on social media! The guy probably knew and understood those fans weren’t BC (he was told) but at the same time he was being applauded by his own followers! Imagine having to bear all that insanity without lost the patience and behave like a Hollywood star!

I think the same. Most of the time they say something innocuous that somehow someone somewhere finds "offensive" (like that chamomile tea brouhaha 🙄) or they just get bored of the inanity of it all.
Of course there are rare few who do it well but they are the exception who prove the rule... social media is a minefield for celebrities! Actually it is a minefield for just about everyone.
Honestly, who cares if one person waxes eloquent about their sandwiches and another is enigmatic? And how do you extrapolate anything about their true "character" from that one response to that specific interviewer on that particular day? SMH.

I got to say Chris Evans runs a spectacular Twitter account. So does Chris Hemsworth, who posts nice videos of himself working out. 😍

I must say that what surprised me the most about Keanu is that he eats meat. I thought he was vegan.
I think BC should have an instagram and a twitter account. He doesn't need to post all the time and he just have to adjust the settings so as to only see friends posts. Perhaps have someone that could go through the replies and block the trolls/haters. I'd block also anyone who answered to trolls giving them life like some people do on tumblr.
Chris Hemsworth's wife also has a very active instagram. She posts even pictures of their children and family life.
Even Martin Freeman is posting pictures/videos through his partner's instagram.

Respectfully, but I couldn't disagree more with you about BC being on Twitter and/or Instagram. I think if he isn't comfortable with using it, it could end up being disastrous. I don't know anything about the other actors, but from what little I have seen of Martin Freeman's recent exposure on social media, it is shaping up to be the beginning of a shit show with Hater sites spreading all sorts of crap about his partner just like the Haters of Sophie. And they are spreading it out of Tumblr and into the mainstream now. So from where I sit, having a twitter or Instagram page doesn't stop any of the tin-hatters at all. I don't see ANY benefits for BC, or his private life, if he was to suddenly get a social media site. He probably wouldn't be a willing participant, so it is doubtful he would keep up with it. Also, he has, IMO, enough publicity for his public life now, so is it really necessary? Hardly a day goes by without some sort of BC news popping up on my Google page. Really how much exposure does an actor need? I don't think he has to be tooting his own horn as well. It seems a tad too narcissistic for me. Leave that to the domain of fandom.
