Ah, you’re an optimist. ☺️ I wish I was.

I always worry when there’s Oscar talk before the movie even gets made, because people will always be judging whether or not it really is Oscar-worthy. I’d rather have it go unnoticed until the premiere, when everyone will be pleasantly surprised!

Well, it's pretty dark. I suppose it will depend what mood the Oscar voters are in next winter.

She is more a Festivals filmmaker than Oscar's. They have to talk about awards because they are selling it. Just look the other films in sale: an action comedy about male strippers! A new Roland Emmerich movie! A remake of a 90's Stallone flick... with women instead of men! The Power of the Dog is clearly not one of the accessible ones! Anyway I found an interview from last year with Campion in which she mentions this without giving details: www.theguardian.com/film/2018/may/20/jane-campion-unconventional-film-maker-macho-force

Great article! I had forgotten that she did 'An Angel at My Table,' I loved that film. BC has often worked with female directors (movie and stage), so he is a natural to work with her. I'm really looking forward to this project. I read the entire book in a day, it's quite a page-turner.

I have read half of the book now and I dont know if you agree, onebluestocking but it reminds me to Rebecca! It read like a Gothic novel! A taciturn man marries a naive humble woman and take her to this big cold mansion/ranch where a mysterious but fascinating character always in the shadows make her life miserable! So maybe BC couldn't play Laurence Oliver's character but hey, he will play the Mrs. Danvers role!
