My guess is that with Cannes being larger than ever this year, TPOTD would get more attention in Venice.
When will we ever see a still from this movie??? Maybe they're trying to preserve the mystery.

They supposedly select the best movies for competition. In the case of TPOTD is automatically disqualified because Netflix (their rules demand a wide window between theatrical exhibition and TV airing/streaming)
I think it would be better if the movie receives the treatment of a film in competition because the attention is bigger for those.

I'm seriously trying to decipher this! Lol. He says "I dreamed" so it didn't happen. It was just "a dream", doesn't? But then, he talks about their happy future with Netflix

I see a lot of people disappointed that it wasn’t announced today for Cannes on Twitter and it’s a shame in certain way because I would have liked to see some still or a trailer but if you read those interviews posted here it’s clear Thierry Frémaux wouldn’t had accepted in competition (because the Netflix factor). It’s nice that he “dreamed” to have it “out of competition” and it seems they negotiated for it (it’s also clear that Jane Campion and co. wanted to premiere it at Cannes since the beginning) but it’s also nice that Netflix didn’t just gave it to them as a “goodwill present” (as another article said) and thinks it deserves an In Competition spot now, I’m guessing, at Venice (Variety originally reported that even when they were negotiating with Cannes, the film already had a Venice invitation).
So the wait continues…

It says that Frémaux said that two Netflix films could had been selected for the In Competition section if they were released in the normal not Netflix way. It’s believed that one of them was TPOTD
It also says those two movies will go to another festival.

Well, Cannes was a stretch anyway. Maybe it will end up at Venice. 🤞🏼

Also not Latin American movies and only 4 film directed by women in competition, www.paudal.com/2021/06/03/the-cannes-festival-struggles-to-return-to-normality-with-a-powerful-official-section/I was thinking that Cannes’s problem is with Netflix not with Campion, obviously, but she has talked before about how difficult is for her to get the budget for the movies she wants to do and how freely she felt working on TV and now with Netflix. That’s a common problem with female filmmakers. I am not saying Cannes is wrong to ban Netflix films and that it directly affects female filmmaker but I think it could be a factor or at least an interesting point of discussion.
