Really don't know where to put this, so here's as good a place as any! This reminded me of Benedict describing rolling a ciggy with one hand! I finally go around to watching this. How cute and how accurate!

This is smart although you never know how social media would take a neutral answer!
TBF BC wasn’t actually/necessarily talking about Sam Elliott in that now viral quotes. The context was a question about why it was important to play that character in today’s society. He should had know that making a reference (he didn’t even mentioned his name!) would provoke some controversy but he actually clarified that he had not heard the interview and couldn’t discuss it in details. Still, it seems to me it really bothered to him and as he said, he “was trying” not to comment but he couldn’t. Anyway, his points weren’t very different to that LA Times opinion piece so he was brilliant even when now the context and the subtly is lost in some tabloid headlines.

This is hysterical!
This guy is or was a Republican and somehow thinks All About Eve is a good example of a very heterosexual film without sadistic undertones!

Sounds a lot like "blah blah blah, it is OK if you are gay, but I don't want to see it, m'kay?! Stop pushing the gay agenda down our throats!"

The whole thread is demented but I thought it was funny that he mentioned All about Eve because that movie is super gay! Pedro Almodóvar even made a semi-remake/homage with All about my Mother! Actually you can say that the plot is kind of similar to TPOTD: a young ambitious (wo)man feigns to be harmless and cute to seduce an older (wo)man to steal her/his possessions and life! Also another potential polemic: Laurence Fox is now promoting the Sam Elliot quotes. BC was in the same school and theatre class than him very probably at the same time. They share the same favorite teacher, www.standard.co.uk/hp/front/english-teacher-taught-me-to-act-says-lewis-star-as-he-films-show-at-old-school-6429904.htmlThis teacher is also so close to BC that he invited him to TPOTD premiere at LFF and mentioned him during the Q&A! He said he should talk with JC about how they both struggled with him! I wonder who is the teacher’s favorite? 😉 (I’m joking it’s BC! He once says he was the best student actor he ever knew!) Is Laurence Fox Billi Piper's ex? The one that was kicked out of Harrow? Also, got into trouble because he left his kids alone in the car while running into a shop? The Laurence Fox that was on Inspector Lewis? The one who also makes fun of BC because he comes from an acting family but forgets that his family, too, was in the show business industry?
That jackass? The jealous one?

He has made fun of BC?! I thought this was the first time he “suggested” something negative about him! They are around the same age so I can imagine they knew each other in their Harrow years.
Also the press is obsessed with BC supposedly aristocratic pedigree but his parents aren’t exactly the most famous or acclaimed actors in the UK. His mother was the popular one and she mostly did sci-fiction and music hall kind of comedies. The Fox are a much more proper acting dynasty!
I frequently see tweets of people calling him a cheap and bad version of BC or claiming he is envious of him on BC’s tag! That’s why I’m informed of his occurrences! Lol

Yes! It was ages ago, though, that I read something about it - back when I first saw him as a Nazi (?)maybe rapist/wife beater/he sure did force that chick to kiss him(?) in Foyle's War and then in Inspector Lewis. LF is not considered a nice or sweet or anything like that.

I just saw that DM took the headline of The Guardian article about Campion “encouraging” the chaps, ropes and leather/ fetichism in the film and…you can imagine the comments! There are a few very disgusting ones questioning JC’s gender!
I’m still amazed by the idiots who think Sam Elliott is some kind of expert on history or the old west. The guy doesn’t even seem to understand how fiction works! Films aren’t real and it’s obvious that there are fictional creativity in the film (and a LOT of fetichism! Imagine if they read about BC’s scene with the handkerchief! Also nothing new! Just watch Hitchcock films) but the movie is much more realistic and historically accurate than most Sam Elliott westerns! It’s based on a book by someone who knew that world and that time and kind of knew those characters! Elliott’s western are based on old movies that were pure fantasy and myth!
Also someone said that based on her comments, it was obvious that Campion has never been on a ranch. Well, her family owned one and she has talked about owning a horse when she was a kid so wrong again! She has more real life experience than Sacramento’s Sam Elliott!

Here is young Jane working on her parents ranch!
I bet the DM readers would love this photo! 😉
