Oscar nom fabulous? There are rumblings. 😃 I don’t know about that. But he really is hilarious in it. I’ve seen people get Oscars for a lot less! However I doubt he’ll be nominated. If there was a comedy only category he’d be a shoo in.

He is a very funny actor. I didn’t like The Notebook and I’m not very fond of La La Land so not a fan of his “serious” romantic films but I think he was brilliant in Lars and the Girl and the romantic but more silly Crazy, Stupid Love.
I’m also fan of his performance in Half Nelson. That’s actually a pretty dramatic role.

I have his “I’m just Ken” song stuck in my head, lol. I also loved Lars and Crazy, Stupid Love, and didn’t like LaLaLand or The Notebook, so he’s been under my radar for a while. Lars was really well done and amazingly touching.
While I adore musicals (usually from the Golden Age), when I watch one I want to be blown away by the sheer talent of the performers. I want them right in my face, dancing like maniacs, giving it their all, and not sort of lackadaisically swanning around a set. So LaLaLand was a fail for me in that regard. Give me Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Donald O’Conner, Ann Miller, the Nicholas Brothers, who could DANCE.

I hated LaLa Land too and must be one of the few people on the planet who has not seen The Notebook. I think Gosling is an excellent actor but I don’t get his “heartthrob” status. But to each their own. Lots of people don’t get BC’s sex appeal. 🤷♀️ 😀

IMHO He is kinda bland as dramatic “heartthrob” but brilliant when he plays a comical heartthrob like in Crazy Stupid Love and I’m guessing Barbie. Maybe it doesn’t make sense but that’s my point of view! Lol
About LaLa Land it’s surprising how it doesn’t contain any memorable song even when it was an acclaimed musical!

He has impeccable comic timing which is a rare enough skill. For me he really stole the Barbie movie.

I just looked up Crazy Stupid Love because it sounded familiar, and it turns out I’ve seen it. It was one of a bunch of generic romantic comedies that came out a few years ago, and all were forgettable.
I have a vivid memory of watching The Notebook, though. It was a big deal because it starred two Canadians, and I remember sitting in the theatre, waiting for it to become better. But it never did. When it ended, I turned to my sister, shrugged and said “It was just a TV movie that they decided to show at a theatre”. It would have been a pretty good Hallmark/Lifetime movie. And I still feel that way, even though other people are nuts about it.
The more clips I see of Barbie, the worse it looks to me. My sister told me the same thing yesterday - she doesn’t understand why anyone would want to see it. She said it has the same creepy look of the awful Jim Carrey Grinch movie.
