I think fans of TV shows have always voiced their dissapointment about plotlines and developments they don’t like. It’s just that, prior to the advent of social media, they did this in chatting to other people they knew who watched the show or, if they felt strongly enough, writing into shows like “Points of View” on the BBC which aired viewers opinions.
Now social media has given viewers access to a global network via which they can discuss their favourite show with thousands of people and even publish their own reviews. It’s part snd parcel of the way we communicate these days. And I guess you have to take the brick bats aswell as the plaudits.
You can’t please all of the people all of the time and some take their TV shows more seriously than others. It’s no big deal in my opinion.

Someone posted this on Twitter, but without any information about where it's from. I think it's cute!

I know some people really genuinely want to see more Sherlock because they loved the show so much, but I think it is time that everyone just moved on about this (the media, the fans, the haters). It seems that the cast, creatives and crew have, and probably no one loved the show quite as much as they did.
I can’t imagine ever wanting to see more of a series if everyone involved felt like they had to be coerced into making it or did it just for the sake of $$$/£££. If it ever does finally come back I want it to be done because the principles want to do it, not because they felt the had to do it. Usually feelings of being forced to do something doesn’t endow a project with a lot of creative energy and it only results in an inferior effort.

I think Martin Freeman did a great job of describing the situation they're in regarding more Sherlock. They want to please the fans, but no matter what they do, not everyone will be pleased. But he didn't sound like they feel forced to do anything. They've all said they'd be willing to do more!
I will never "move on" and accept that it's over, because it isn't. Whenever they're ready to return, I'll be here waiting!
This weekend, I binge-watched the first season of The Good Place on Netflix, and in one episode a character was talking about a British tv show that she loved. She said it ran on the BBC for 16 years, and they made "nearly 30 episodes". I actually laughed out loud, thinking about about Sherlock episodes being so few and far between.

I think it fine to let it rest for a while, but I will never stop hoping to see more of Ben as Sherlock. He’s so perfect as that character. Before social media made everyone’s opinion so “important,” if we didn’t like a show, we maybe talked about it for 10 minutes at work and then let it go. I think for creators, they know they’ll have haters. Ben even mentioned during Hamlet that he only cared if people were affected by it, “Good, bad, and indifferent.” That’s a healthy attitude, I think. It would be madness if they got upset over every hater.
Some of the haters have some points, but the convo usually digresses to “I’m right, you’re wrong,” which is so tedious. That’s not critique.
Maybe if Martin doesn’t want to do more, we can have Molly & Sherlock? 😁

This just came out today... www.telegraph.co.uk/tv/0/martin-freeman-interview-sherlock-isnt-fun-anymore/It’s on subscription but I managed to find a full reprint of the article on a tumblr site called “free-martinis” - free-martinis.tumblr.com/post/171924480661/martin-freeman-interview-being-in-sherlock-isntHere’s the relevant Sherlock part - I am sure this will be interpreted six ways to Sunday by all interested parties (the JLers, if the comments on this entry are any indication, seem especially put out by Freeman’s directness about how he (and Ben) approached their roles) but one thing seems pretty clear, MF doesn’t seem very receptive to doing any more Sherlock for a while. I think what he is saying is very understandable, seeing how there must be incredible pressure on all concerned with the show, with such enormous expectations. It certainly would be almost impossible to live up to those, and I could see that affecting the creative process. That certainly wouldn’t make it “fun” any more for sure. Best not to force anything because then it is more like the actors and creatives are being held hostage by the show’s past success more than moving forward with a labour of love. :-))
