Apparently, the hotel where most of the action in book two takes place is based on the Pierre Hotel, a very swank, old hotel on Central Park East. I would think that at least some of the filming would take place there. The club he goes to is the Mudd Club, a famous punk venue that closed in the early 80s. I don't know if the facade is still there, but both the exterior and interior should be easy to recreate. I thought most of the drug buying scenes took place on the Lower East Side. I lived in NYC for some of the 1980s. Lower Manhattan has changed dramatically since that time. It will be interesting to how they portray it. I assume they will film at least some of Rio in Brazil. According to Jeffrey Wells they will shoot it in Sri Lanka!

In response to multiple posts, some of my thoughts too.
Re Strange filming, I've just noticed the references to Benedict Wong saying he's filming in June. So that must surely indeed mean BC will be too. It wouldn't be too surprising for Strange to be involved aside from Wong, but less chance the other way round. And that may be in Atlanta, but there were some expectations that Strange was filming from a very specific 19th of May in New York. References then seemed to change to expecting New York filming in July instead, though, although there's no real reason why both couldn't have been feasible, except that there were no reports (that fell under my nose anyway) of visible location filming in May. But that sighting of BC (if it really was him) might have been indicative of something. He hasn't been seen anywhere else, and he wasn't at the Letters Live event at Hay.
Re Melrose, I'm not as sure as some seem to be that BC will choose to be around for the whole of the filming of the first book (and possibly second). I'm not doubting that he'll be taking that producer role very seriously, and that he'll be there at the start of filming (whichever point they start at). But it may be a month (or pretty close) for each book episode, and that's a long time. So I think it's much more likely there'll be some judicious arrangement of the timings to facilitate whatever else is in his schedule and that he'll only be personally present at the start and when he needs to be there to play Patrick. Adam Ackland can still be there in person if necessary. Of course one is assuming that all 5 episodes will be filming all together, but if there is intention to have each filmed by a different director, then that's not a complete certainty.
Re the Guantanamo Bay Diary, be it dramatisation or documentary, I'm not as keen on that as some seem to be. And I think the awful reality of the guy for whom there was a huge release campaign and who then claimed he was there with British collusion in order to get a purported £1M in compensation, but who then turned himself into a suicide bomber, might have some bearing on it's appropriateness at this time.

It's at times like these, when people express so little consideration for the rights and basic humanity of others, that artists must be courageous and call State power and the basest instincts of their fellow citizens to account.

Agreed but I still think it would be difficult to sell it because Guantanamo is still a very hot issue so I don't know if it is an imminent project. Remember that Sunny March also filmed something in the infamous refugee camp The Jungle during a Letterslive event (in which BC didn't participate)? It would be interesting to see if they do something with that material. About Melrose, I doubt he would be in the first episode and the character is not necessarily in all the scenes in the books, there are a lot of characters and flashbacks about ancestors, but David Nicholls actually said he IS in every scene (of his scripts).

So after (Patrick) Melrose we actually had The Grinch, Jungle Book and a TV film about Brexit! No one predicted the last one!
Next will be Ironbark (another “new” project), the Avengers: Endgame and probably The Current War. What is next? I’m still hoping for Rio but probably will be something we haven’t hear yet, too.

There’s a rumor he’ll be in the new Spider-Man movie. 👀

The one they already shot? I think he did Brexit around that time so if he has a cameo or something then we will have a bald Doctor Strange! 😉

I wonder if he has a 6 film contract with Marvel? Endgame will be his 4th. If he is in Spiderman, it would be his 5th.

Lol, they wig him. I know BC has those thick, luscious locks, but even he doesn’t have Dr. Strange’s coif.

TBH I don’t think he will be in Spiderman, at least he recorded some cameo beforehand as he did with the Thor movie. We will see! We all know he will be in Endgame even when it’s not official yet for plot reasons but I just saw a tweet with supposedly description of toys from the movie and one set consisted in Doctor Strange, Wong and the Ancient One so it seems we will have Tilda Swinton, too. It’s not a news news because one of the directors casually/accidentally mentioned she was in the movie some time ago.
