I am sure Sherlock will be mentioned (Wasn’t it mentioned already?). It doesn’t matter what it is always mentioned and it doesn’t help Edison is considered a genius! Yes, he is the villain this time but he was a genius!

Even Patrick Melrose was compared early on mostly because he called himself “a narcissist, schizoid, suicidal alcoholic”. I’m not sure Sherlock was anything of that and probably neither Patrick (ok, he was suicidal and alcoholic) but still! I saw tweets of people saying it was the same role just because both were addicted to heroin even when Sherlock “addiction” is mostly cartoonish and unreal!

BC always plays his roles in a different way but there is always a group of people that think summaries equals performances. If both Edison and Sherlock are genius then the actor always play the same role in the same way! They don’t need to watch the movies they just know because they both are intelligent!

Once I saw a tweet that wasn’t actually negative but it was so wrong. This guy said that he didn’t understand why Keanu Reeves was considered a bad actor for giving always the same performance when BC is acclaimed for doing exactly the same. He said he admired both. Well, I like Reeves, too and I don’t think there is anything bad in always playing the same character (that’s what old movie stars did and they were great. That’s the purest film performance) but Reeves actually play characters that could be described in an extremely differents way in all kind of genres but he do it in the same way. He is always Keanu Reeves. Nothing bad with that! BC comes from a theatre school and it’s actually noticeable. The description of his characters can sound similar but he actually plays them differently. That’s why he is more respected in conventional acting circles. So yes, Reeves is kind of discriminated for being a pure film actor but he is very different actor compared to BC! Both are great, tho.!
