I can't understand it. Why is it so confusing for some people? Anyway, I think they could have dressed BC a bit different to help people figure the different years. It happened the same with TTSS, a movie I also love. People were saying it was so difficult to follow it but you just need to put attention to the screen. That’s all! IMHO general audiences are used to films explicitly telling them when, where, why and what is happening on screen so when something is so subtle that trust in the audiences to put enough attention to the visual details or casual phrases to tell a story they are confused and sometimes even furious! I can’t imagine these people watching something like, I don’t know!, The Turin Horse!!! I love TTSS more every time I watch it. It's funny you mentioned it because I almost wrote that I was feeling for TCiT the same as how I feel about TTSS. I hope I can catch it Sunday and still like it as before. I was going to write that on the second scene (at the flat when he puts the sign on the door) that it was obvious he was living alone: after he brushes his teeth they show there is only 1 toothbrush. Also, the scene at the restaurant. What else do you need to at least deduce that they separated?

I think what they were trying to say is he ALSO wrote atonement, not that this is atonement. It’s an awkward sentence.

It shouldn’t be a comma after “Atonement”. I wonder if these Internet publications have editors.

You're right - the comma shouldn't be there. I guess my brain ignored the comma when I first read it because it sounded correct in my head.

Well he (I think it's a he) does come right out and say that TCIT is "sort of the made-for-TV film equivalent of something you’d find in an abstract art museum". So, he's not a fan of abstract art! But he then describes himself as a "media critic", which I guess means he watches a lot of tv and has a computer.
