Benedict just happens to be the one with a movie to promote just when these reports are about to be published. He and the other actors from TCW will be giving interviews and will almost certainly be asked about it. I think the response I suggested is the right one.
Of course Weinstein has right to a fair trial and should absolutely hire a legal team.
As for other women coming to his defense, unless they have personal knowledge of the charges, I think it would be reprehensible to say anything. If they are asked, they can say “I never saw anything” “he was always good to me, but I don’t know anything about these charges and will not comment further”.

Yes, of course. It’s just not easy to have faith in his innocence after all those rumors, accusations (normally without directly mentioning his name) and speculations.
Judi Dench said she has a tattoo with his name in her backside! Probably joking but she always tells the story about how much she loves him and thanks him for her career. Then you have Daniel Day Lewis, Martin Scorsese, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lawrence, George Clooney, etc. Maybe it’s easier to name people who hasn’t work with him!
Agreed about the promotion. It’s an unfortunate position to be.

How could RRodriguez continue working with Weinstein while knowing what had happened?
What was the tape about?

That's an interesting article. HW's statement reminds me of a scandal that went through my workplace about 10 years ago. A top manager was suing the company for the sexual harassment she and her sister had endured back in the 70's, when they had just started out working there. She said that they had been promised promotions in exchange for sexual favours. The men she was accusing had long since retired, but she was suing the company for millions because she said everyone knew it was happening and had let it go on. Not one person was the least bit surprised to hear about those accusations. As HW said in his statement, that's the way things were back then, sadly.
Maybe I missed it in the article, but I didn't read anything about women who refused HW's advances and who then faced retaliation. I know they said they feared for their careers, but I wonder if he ever actually did anything to anyone who said no to him. He really does come across as a dirty old man. He has probably had some pretty young girls offer themselves to him to be in his movies, so he figures they'll all be willing to do it. It's that casting couch we've heard so much about, and maybe HW will be the one to finally bring it to an end.

This is following the standard protocol. Gets called out, apologizes, leaves for a while, things will get sorted, he'll be back, shorter leash next time. Yawn.

...and now he’s suing the NYT. Harvey must be in a 12 step program. Suing is, of course, the 13th step. This makes me nostalgic for the 90s when the 13th and 14th steps were posing for Playboy and going on Oprah.
If anyone brings anything down, it will be the women who spoke out, the reporters who wrote the stories, and the newspapers and magazines that published those stories - not Harvey Weinstein. He’s a pig!

This part slightly bother me:
Of course he is an hypocrite about women’s rights but it also seems to suggest that he was fooling people when he presented himself as “a liberal lion”. I doubt it. I mean Roman Polanski, Woody Allen, Bill Cosby all have been in one way or another progressive in their work and/or politics. They are/were part of liberal Hollywood. Why not admitting it? It’s not just Conservative hypocrisy. Progressive men could be also pigs. And their “politics” frequently help them to get away with it. Men who say the “right” thing or have the “right” politics aren’t necessary decent. And those are just the old fellows. I remember a recent case of a “feminist” porn male star who was loved by the pseudo feminist kids from porn infested Tumblr who, unsurprisingly, was accused of sexual abuse and not one but two non binary indie band members who raped fans! Progressive were shocked. They shouldn’t!
