Money and talent make privilege, which clears the way for abuse of that privilege. Humans. Bah.

I don’t know how to copy tweets, but Rose McGowan and Asia Argento have been tweeting each other. McGowan started with “I want to buy the movie rights”. Argento responded by saying “I own the movie rights”. They then joked about collaborating. I wonder if they’ll ever be able to talk about it publically and name names.

Rose McGowan isn’t quoted in the article at all even when she was very vocal and made more damaging accusations against a then unnamed Hollywood producer on Twitter. I guess she is “contractually obligated” to not talk directly about the case. After all the article says she and others had out the court settlements. Maybe I’m wrong. After all there is another major article by Roman Farrow. Maybe she is quoted there but according to the NYT, the settlement exist.

I’m sure some kind of non-disclosure contract is involved in McGowan’s case. Interesting how she’s walked a very fine line in what she says publically. I wonder about Argento.
Are non-disclosure agreements binding when someone gives a deposition in a criminal trial? I genuinely don’t know. I know it hasn’t come to that point. Since HW is suing the NYT, I think the Times should be able to insist that the people who made those settlements give depositions.

Based in the bizarre statement and his interview with Page Six, I understand he thought they would published something slightly different. He and actually also his lawyer in another statement seem to be talking about bad behavior, anger control and maybe some sexist comments but not exactly harassment. He said something about the NYT publishing something they didn’t talk about and trying to published it soon because they feared the other publication won the scoop (yes, I know: “you are defaming me because you want to do it first than the other not related publication that also wants to defame me!). He is claiming the harassment accusations are false but he also seems to suggest that he was fooled to make that statement by the NYT. At least that’s how I interpreted it and his odd reactions and contradictions.
Sadly he seems to be the only one suing. The women who did were paid and probably it’s too late for the ones who didn’t. After what happened with Bill Cosby, I really doubt there will be justice with someone so powerful like him. I mean Bill Cosby was directly accused of drugging and raping unconscious women for decades and he walked free! Until now there is not a criminal investigation against Weinstein. At least a public one!
EDITED: I just checked and Rose McGowan actually did another movie with the Weinstein between Scream and the two Grindhouse movies. It’s called Phantoms and the main stars are she and Peter O’Toole! It’s one of those cheaps Dimension flicks and has the two Weinsteins credited as producers. I’m now wondering if the director was her boyfriend and was him the one she was talking about instead of Rodriguez because it would had been obvious that a Tarantino movie would be developed since the beginning by the Weinstein. But again, it seems this flick was completely produced by Dimension. It should had been awful to have to work repeatedly with him after the experience she had.
Asia Argento did I think two movies with Miramax. La Reine Margot, which surely was just bought by the brothers for distribution. The star was of course Isabella Adjani and one dark comedy in which she was the main character, B Monkey. It is not a great movie but I remember I really enjoyed it. She is the daughter of a very popular Italian filmmaker so I don’t know if he dared to harass her! Although I understand that Ashley Judd is daughter of a popular country singer so...

Another explosive article: www.thecut.com/2017/10/why-the-weinstein-sexual-harassment-allegations-came-out-now.htmlThis actually made me think about BC comment about Weinstein giving him a “bad time” at the SAG awards for sitting with the competition. Maybe he was literally talking about a “bad time”! I originally interpreted it as some intimidating but friendly scolding by the boss! Apart of the awfulness of the harassment accusations, which undoubtedly are the worst, he seems to have an extremely bad temper!

I have ambivalent feelings towards this situation, in general, not only Weinstein. If I found words to express what I think, I'll write. The way some people reacted turning on Lawrence, Blake Lively and others is depressing. Meanwhile, what is going to happen to The Current War?

I’m concerned about what’s going to happen with The Current War, as well. I’m beginning to wonder if they’ll even release it. It’s going to be at the Austin Film Festival in a few weeks and I have a wristband. You usually need a badge to see the major movies, so I was going to focus on the more obscure titles, but I might try to see it. Of course, I probably won’t be able to get in. For Benedict’s sake, I almost hope he doesn’t have to do many interviews. Here is an excellent story about why it has been so difficult to do anything about HW for years and why he’s vulnerable now. It does a good job of showing how powerless people have felt. His temper and violence are at least as notorious as his sexual abuse. I firmly believe that he’s the tip of the iceberg. i just noticed it’s the same article Shevardnadze linked. www.thecut.com/2017/10/why-the-weinstein-sexual-harassment-allegations-came-out-now.html

I've seen at least one tweet saying that anyone doing business with HW is "complicit". It really isn't fair for Benedict or the movie to be tarnished by this scandal. And should anyone really base business decisions on rumours, even if the rumours have gone on for years? If Benedict is expected to have known better, then the same could be said of the accusers who knew of HW's reputation and continued to work for him anyway. It's very different now that it's all become public. HW has taken a leave of absence. Surely he's rich enough to retire after this and allow his business to carry on without him, under a different name.
Unfortunately, The Current War is being mentioned in most of the articles as HW's latest project. And one article said that it opened at TIFF to "withering reviews".
What a mess!

This is rather underhanded, but if TCW tanks it can be said it was because of HW and had nothing to do with Ben. He always gets good reviews, but there's another reason the movie may fail.
