I liked this write up:

I seriously doubt this person actually read the books but at least did an effort to not write the exact words of the press packs! That’s something!
Patrick Melrose is an aristocrat without merit, who endured a traumatic childhood only to emerge an aimless adult who fills his vapid and empty life with drugs and alcohol, at the expense of his own burgeoning family. Melrose is the creation of English author Edward St Aubyn, who wrote five semi-autobiographical stories about the trials and tribulations of the troubled character, which were collected into a single tome back in 2012.
Now, Showtime and Sky Atlantic are teaming up to bring Patrick Melrose to television in a miniseries event, with each of the five episodes being based on one of St Aubyn’s stories. Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness) is playing the title character; based on the trailer, it looks like he’s perfectly captured Melrose’s particular blend of jaunty charisma and overpowering sadness. Patrick Melrose is a unique character, but Cumberbatch, by all appearances, seems to be completely up to the task of bringing him to life, and we’re ready to follow this version of Melrose on his journey to become something at least vaguely resembling an actualized member of the human race.
In addition to Cumberbatch, the series will also star beloved actors Hugo Weaving and Jennifer Jason Leigh as his parents (abusive and neglectful, respectively), as well as Blythe Danner and Allison Williams in supporting roles.
No release date has been set, but fans of the novels and newcomers alike can expect Patrick Melrose to debut on Showtime sometime in 2018.
