QZ, there are about 15,000 books about Abraham Lincoln (that doesn't even count the huge number of articles written about the man) and probably at least 2 dozen movies about that particular president and yet somehow Doris Kerns Goodwin managed to say something absolutely unique and original about the man In her wonderfully written book "A Team of Rivals" (which BTW was the book that Spielberg's Lincoln movie was based on).
Now I know "Lady Di" isn't Abe, but I think this does demonstrate that an author makes all the difference (as can a great creative team behind a film or TV presentation) .
Not saying you won't be wrong about any movie about Diana (personally I wasn't a fan of her, so I didn't pay a lot of attention to her when she was alive or when she died). It may be a huge dud. But I do believe many times a great director or a talented writer can find something unique (or a unique way of telling a story) that can find something interesting to say about even a well worn topic.
As far as future projects for our beloved BC, my fervent hope is he will do that remake of the Peter O'Toole film. 😊

My friends and I had a huge interest in Diana when she was alive, probably because she was around our age. We could live vicariously through her and imagine that we, too, could suddenly become a princess! One of my friends went out and bought a pattern for the same wedding dress Diana wore, even though she didn’t even have a boyfriend at the time. (Unfortunately, a family friend of hers had the same dress made for her own wedding, so my friend had to choose a different pattern when she did eventually get married a few years later.)
I wasn’t obsessed with Diana, but I’m pretty sure I’ve already heard everything there is to say about her. Maybe, one day Harry and William will write their memoirs and we might get a look at Diana from their point of view. THAT would make an interesting movie!

I don't think it should be about finding new facts. It's fiction so it should be just about finding an interesting angle. Actually I don't think it's ideal having family members involve! Surely they would try to protect their images.
I personally don't care for Diana or any royal. I haven't watched The Crown because the theme seems boring to me. Also it's a series so you have to invest a lot of time on it! On the other hand, I think Stephen Frear's The Queen is a very good movie. Mostly because Frears is a very good filmmaker.
I think this project sounds interesting not because the theme but because the filmmaker. Sadly, I don't think BC will be part of the cast! It's just pure clickbait material.

According to Larrain: I just don't care about the story. How someone would like to marry just to be a princess?
From:
And...Steven Knight is the writer of Rio or whatever the name. What is he doing instead of working on Rio?

Hopefully he can due Justice this interesting angle, but the examination of her “fairy tale life” and her choice to bail on all of that (as well as the counter angle of her marriage being a fractured fairy tale) has been well explored.
I was fascinated by her life, stayed up all night to watch her marriage and her funeral, but she was a semi spoiled, privileged woman who was used by an abusive system whilst trying to manipulate it at the same time.
And Roverpup, yes, she was no Lincoln, which is why another biopic of her life and choices is redundant. Whatever, lol. I hope it works out for the film maker.

A different point of view of the whole Diana-and-Charles thing: A few months before the royal wedding, my friend was in town visiting from Ireland (the friend who had moved back to Ireland several years earlier). I was anxious to hear all about the upcoming wedding and getting details that we didn’t have yet over here. But instead she told me that they (back in Ireland) thought that Diana was making a huge mistake. She said that there was even a campaign to get Diana to change her mind, and people went around wearing buttons that read “Don’t do it, Di!” Ha!

Adam Mckay and Will Ferrell should totally get Benedict Cumberbatch for their Manimal reboot. Thousands of women would crowd the theaters to see him tear out of his clothes. I think Tom Ellis from Lucifer would be a perfect actor, for the Manimal TV series reboot,Tom Ellis as Dr Jonathan Chase who can transform into any animal he wishes to,to fight crime.Thank You.

I moved all the Manimal thread here because I think it's purely speculative.

I don't wish that for either of them, although I didn't watch the original series. It looks awful.

I certainly hope that it’s only a crazy rumour and nothing more. Benedict needs to stick to roles that will win him an Oscar!
