Interesting! In the book Charles is a few years older than Stephen (the character not the actor!) but here Stephen Campbell Moore (who plays Charles) is three years younger than BC. The dynamics should change a little compared to the book. Thelma is also younger at least compared how I imagined her. After all if BC is a 40 years old then Charles according to the book should be in his 50's and Thelma in her 60's, right? Anyway I'm just comparing to the book I'm not a purist. I actually tend to hate purists!
Great cast! I can't wait for the movie. Campbell Moore has a very twisted character in his hand so it should be interesting to see what he does with it!

According to imdb, Campbell Moore also acted in Amazing Grace and Burlesque Fairytales with Benedict.
In the book, there are a lot of flashbacks of Charles, the character Moore plays. His behavior throughout the book is all over the map - at times he acts both older than he is and younger than he is - so I don't think the actual age of the actor matters much. I think, at one point, he is described as six years older than Stephen, but that he seems older. Saskia Reeves is 55 or 56.

I don't think it matters too much but in the book he is a very experienced editor when Stephen is just a young struggling author in one of the flashbacks. In the "present" he goes from a successful and promising politician to, well, a "child" so in some way Stephen also goes from being the younger and inexperienced one to the adult in their relationship so I imagine the dynamic will indeed change a little although I just saw a pair of recent photos of him an I was surprised how old he looks! I still remember him from The History Boys....in which he played a high school teacher to actors from his own age! I think BC looks younger anyway! He had a very short role in Amazing Grace. If I'm not wrong he is the lawyer who writes the flags bill at the end of the movie. I haven't watched Burlesque Fairytales! He is great. The two actresses are also great so I'm very happy with the cast.

According to wikipedia SCM was born in November 30, 1977. So he's just a year and months younger than BC. He doesn't look younger. Saskia Reeves is 55 yo. I only read a summary of the book. ETA I didn't see the two previous posts before posting. I think he can pull looking older. This picture is from November 2015 and look at this video also. SCM

Really? IMDB says 1979. Maybe he is actually older than BC!

I haven't watched either Amazing Grace or Burlesqe Fairytales. LOL Since we're discussing age, I just want to say that I'm very happy that Kelly Macdonald, who plays Stephen's wife, is the same age as Benedict. How refreshing!

You totally should watch Amazing Grace. It's not a great movie but BC is wonderful in it. It's a very subtle performance and very mature for an actor that was still in his twenties. And I say "mature" in a literal way. I was amazed at how easily he went from playing the young version to the old one. Also even then he had a lot of authority and presence . He was against people like Michael Gambon, Cieran Hinds and Toby Jones* but he imposed himself easily on screen. I can't say the same about Ioan Gruffudd. I guess it didn't helped him that he was practically playing a saint! I remember a review in a literature magazine called Letras Libres by a Spanish writer. He didn't like the movie but was amazed by the old British actors in supporting roles (he wasn't a fan of the star) including the fantastic young man playing William The Young. He predicted great things for him!
*Albert Finley is also in the movie but I think he never share screen with BC.

I thought it was wonderful! I saw it when it came out, before I ever knew who Benedict was. It never played at the big multiplexes, but rather at the artsy theatre in my neighbourhood that usually shows independent/foreign films. It stayed with me long after I'd seen it, and I'm always boring people with the story of what the song is really about. I loved it!

Yes, it's very positive they both are from the same age.
I'm also glad that he is interested in doing adult drama. It's not an easy theme especially nowadays that everything seems to be kids friendly or at least adults with kid tastes friendly (mmm I guess the book is a little about these people). I hope BC's fans respond to the material. In that way it's a risky theme but sadly it could only be made for TV these days.
