BC was ignored by the SAG, too.
They went for Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkis. I guess they preferred to watch Zorro instead of something difficult and complex!

The sad part is that a Blu-Ray prospect seems even more difficult without an award! They are nominating and awarding all those easily digestible series that everyone watched (some of them not so well-received as Patrick Melrose, by the way!) and that are very easy to find meanwhile Showtime is sending those messages of please check on Amazon to see if PM is on BluRay: "Of, couse it's not! You haven't released it!" and without it, it seems more difficult it could reach the audience it deserves. Also it doesn't helps that award-pundits who haven't even watched it or understand it are saying the series is something it's not: just a vehicle for BC as actor, a conventional PBS-BBC British drama about posh people, a series that was just "polite" received by critics!
Seriously, my only hope now is that Edward Berger do a great film and cinephiles become interested in his old work! I hope Rio is great and that he doesn't end disappointing me as poor Tomas Alfredson!
On the other hand, I'm glad BC is taking risks with his choices as actor-producer. This and The Child in Time aren't clearly stuff for everyone. Both with a cinematic sensibility and about extremely sad and difficult themes. His name is associated with certain kind of films/series and even when his popularity helps a lot, it can also stop certain kind of public to watch these small productions thinking they are something they are not.

I'm totally maintaining my position that if he's nomiinated, good; if he isn't, ok.
Please! They nominated Crazy Rich Asians., I think it was awful. Asians speaking English between them!

I haven't watched Crazy Rich Asians but the other day I read a comment on the Box Office forum calling Chinese people racist because it bombed there! That's the state of film talking in English speaking countries!

After reading that The Grinch is probably doing so well is because of word of mouth, I started thinking that maybe there wasn’t enough talk about Patrick Melrose. I know they had those billboards in Los Angeles, but they certainly could have done a lot more to promote it. Maybe Benedict and SunnyMarch have learned from that experience and will do more to make sure their future projects get seen. Illumination might have gone overboard with The Grinch promotions, but it has certainly paid off at the box office.

I just saw that Black Panther is nominated, too! I'm almost fearful to say it but I think is just a politically correct nomination. Surely it will be nominated to the Oscars! Good for Spike Lee's film and that's the thing I doubt he has a chance here or with the Academy when he should had been recognized eons ago! He is one of the best American filmmakers ever! If he is not nominated I doubt there would be a major scandal but I can't see already people screaming "RACIST!!!" if Black Panther is not!

I have to clarify that I generally hate this kind of movies.
I think that what was racist was the movie. They showed the Asian- Asians characters as snobs some, without any class and gross others, mean and frivolous some more while the American-Asians or English- Asians were the good ones.
Constance Wu also looks like Henry Golding's mother in some scenes.
