Luckily, his hayfield has been very bountiful (he’s an excellent farmer, lol) and that’s afforded him the opportunity to have his family with him while he works. So far. But, yeah, good points, OBS. I’m sure he feels guilty (or at least concerned) about having a significant presence in his children’s lives. It can’t be easy. Most fathers probably feel the same way, I would imagine.

He has been staying true to his word and taking jobs that keep him close to home. This Brexit movie shouldn't take long to film. I'm guessing that apart from the time in hair and makeup each day, it will go quickly. And I think he'll mostly be talking in this role - no special effects or complicated stunts.

It doesn't seem to me that he is in such a difficult position re family time. He is not working long office hours every day. He hasn't been filming anything for half a year and while he has been doing other things, only promotional tour for Avengers was really intense.I think he has more possibility to spend time with his children than most working fathers.
As for being snotty, the journalist clearly said so: I don't see why we should suppose he has invented it. Actually I like this about Benedict, being short-tempered sometimes makes him more genuine, IMO.

We don't know his daily schedule, but can be assured he is not twiddling his thumbs any days he is not filming. The publicized filming schedule probably doesn't include all of the time required for costume/makeup/hair development and fitting, physical training, screen tests, role preparation (memorizing lines, studying the character, learning to do fight scenes or play an instrument or whatever.) And personal appearances (fan conventions, Hay Festival, awards shows, TV talk shows, red carpet appearances, Laureus Awards, random events like the Stephen Hawking memorial, etc.) Then there is travel time to all of these events and obviously, world PR tours for large film openings. And we don't really know when he is doing other stuff like interviews, photo shoots, charity work, commercial/brand embassador stuff, anything pertaining to honorary roles such as LAMBDA president, voiceover roles, etc. Not to mention running a production company which presumably includes many meetings and work to decide on potential projects, staffing, casting etc.
There's just no way that a worldwide star involved in everything he is doing, isn't busier than most working parents, whatever the hours, unless you are the CEO of some huge corporation. And the random unpredictability of his schedule would make planning family time very hard! Especially at young ages when nap/sleep/eat schedule is very inflexible.

According to Edward Berger he was also working on the editing of Patrick Melrose.
And, if he's filming now, he's surely been studying for the role.

I think he does have a very busy life, but handles it calmly. He never seems to be frazzled, even if he is. It's probably due to having grown up in a show-business family. His parents did not have 9-5 jobs, so he was used to that lifestyle, and he has said that he enjoyed it. And I'm sure it helps that they probably have a lot of assistants around to make things a little easier.

Yes. I mean, we may know a given project begins filming on X date and ends on Y date, but that does not include time he spent reading books that screenplays are based on, background research of his many real-life characters, studying lizards in the zoo for Smaug, learning to play violin for Sherlock or piano for A:OC, bulking up to play Khan or Dr. Strange, the list is endless!

I think BC is a VERY busy person and a lot of his hectic schedule isn't necessarily obvious to the public, so I could see where it may be really difficult to "see" all the behind the scene stuff he does, but there is evidence of it never the less. Besides all that has been mentioned in the previous posts, I also believe him when he said recently that his schedule is so tight that he hasn't even had time to go to the eye doctor to get contacts. Just preparing for the role of DS called for training for 3 hours a day! And that probably went on for quite a while! It wasn't done for recreation - it was part of his job to do it. I also think he has had to make a concerted effort to plan his career so that he purposely can have as much time as possible with his family, which had to be done precisely because he is so busy. He has talked about not doing stage work, at the moment, because of it being too intrusive of time with his family. That says to me that he is acutely aware of just how little time is available for him in that reguard. :-))

I didn’t see the interview where he said he hadn’t time to get his contact lenses updated. He doesn’t seem to have been wearing his glasses either. Everything must literally be a blur to him. 😀

I don't remember which interview it was, but I think I remember something about him being asked if he had ever considered contacts, and he said that he hadn't had the time.
I was thinking about his eyes when I saw the picture of him in that Brexit movie. I remember that he has said that he didn't know he needed glasses until he was fitted for contacts to play Julian Assange. So now that he had to get brown contacts for this new role, maybe he finally got around to getting contact lenses in his real life! I will miss him in glasses, though, if that happens.
