Apparently Jake Gyllenhaal is being critiziced for playing a double amputee right now.
We need a short list of double amputees actors and Welsh Gipsies white actors who are pro gay rights for those roles. I guess!

There are hundreds of comments to that Guardian article, so there was no need to add my comment to it. They are overwhelmingly in defense of Benedict taking the Gypsy Boy role. They're pretty funny to read, too, if you have lots of time on your hands. And many of the comments are angry that the writer, a white American woman, is giving her opinion on something outside of her own culture.

I hope this project does come about because I would love to see BC in this role.
And I am glad to see this tweet!!! The SJW who are reving up to rant and whine about him taking this role can go bite themselves IMO! Honestly they are so tiring!

I couldn't care less about this project but the whitewashing "scandal" is reaching to find anything to nitpick.

IMO the only cases that deserve criticism is when actors need brown or black painting on their faces to do believable their roles. Probably the last case I remember is A Mighty Heart and still Angelina Jolie was very good in it so even in those cases you can criticize the casting but applaud the performance. In classic films, I really enjoyed Charles Heston playing the heroic Mexican cop in Touch of Evil even when he looked ridiculous with his brown face!
If the actor look the part then the criticism is silly. They are actors and actors doesn’t necessarily need to play themselves all the time.
Diversity in movies is important but that it’s not necessarily the same theme because if it were then the racists that criticized the casting of Sophie Okonedo in The Hollow Crown were right and they weren’t!

I think we can all agree that times have changed and no actors should be altering their appearance to play a character of a different skin colour or race. I can't even imagine an actor today agreeing to do that! It doesn't matter how good an actor he is, if the character is supposed to be black, a white actor should not get the part.
There was somebody who made an interesting statement about diversity in acting, and I wish I could remember who it was! I think it was related to the complaints about Tilda Swinton in Doctor Strange. It was something like diversity isn't about wanting an Asian actor to play an Asian character, but rather wanting an Asian actor to play a non-Asian character. And the same would be applied to gender or race.
