TBH I am not an expert in kiddie movies (I haven't watched a lot of popular ones) and of course Disney is the king not just in the animation but more important in the story. They are great creating intelligent and moving stories but I kind of like Illumination animation style. Again I haven't watched all their movies and I know they aren't exactly critics darlings but the two My Favorite Villain flicks weren't THAT bad. I kind of like their animation style more than Dreamworks' but yeah Disney is for much the best.
I don't know it it would be well received by critics but on the other hand it's very probable that it will be a major box office success. All Illumination movies are and this one is a Xmas movie with an extremely popular character. I guess at the end it will depends of the competition but I really doubt it won't be a major hit.

It looks like the terrible Jim Carrey one made $345m on a $123m budget, but I guess they thought it was promising enough to make another. I just love the Boris Karloff original, and don't care for all the recent films padding Dr. Suess books out to feature film length.

I am looking forward to this because it's a remake of the original, but with modern animation. They'll have to make some changes, though, because the original was a one-hour tv special and this will be a feature-length movie. I hope they keep the songs and I hope we get to hear Benedict singing.
The Jim Carrey remake was creepy and certainly didn't have the heart-warming feel of the old cartoon.

Which it's a strong box office especially considering that $260 M of that were just from domestic venues. And in theory this new version has a better potential in international markets, even if the character is not so popular in most non-American territories, considering it's an Illumination film. Also Carrey's movie will be 18 years old when this new version is realesed. But yes, I hope it's better. Karloff' classic is short and heartwarming meanwhile Carrey's, who is actually good in the movie, is mediocre and forgettable.

Danny Elfman does the music for The Simpsons and writes all those crazy songs for the show, so we know that the music is going to be a lot of fun!
