I saw a tweet yesterday of someone from Peru moaning the great Benedict Cumberbatch will be doubled by Mexican comedian Eugenio Derbez. I laughed because he doesn't has exactly the most beautiful voice in the world! (like we all know BC has!). I thought they maybe were joking but I just watched the trailer in Spanish on TV!!!! Derbez actually tries to sound like BC in the English version!

I grew up watching the 1966 version with Boris Karloff. For the song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” it should be remembered by everyone in perpetuity IMO.
Personally I just don’t like Jim Carrey movies at all (or I should say almost all JC movies because The Truman Show was of some value - the rest of his movies just don’t interest me).
I am not into watching animated films so I won’t be seeing this one of BC’s, but I do think the trailer was very cute and I am sure he will make a wonderful Grinch! I hope it does well at the BO. I am sure the kids will love it because the story is a classic and deserves to be remade to keep it fresh in the minds of a new generation.
:-))
Edit: I just don’t get this big fuss all the time (like on twitter and tumblr etc.) about BC using his voice or not using his voice in films. He’s an actor. Sometimes if the role calls for it he uses his British accent, sometimes the role doesn’t call for it so he uses some other accent. What’s the big deal? It’s like when he cuts his hair! Sometimes it’s long and curly - sometimes not... it’s still him with all his other talents and skills, so what’s the fuss about? 🙄😖⁉️

When I told my sister that people were defending Jim Carrey's Grinch, she said "Ewww, but it was so creepy!". My thought exactly! We saw it when it came out because we loved the original animated version. I have never watched JC's version again, and yet I continue to watch the original every Christmas when it airs on tv. I love this new trailer, and I'd go see the movie even if Benedict were not in it.
And not that it really matters, but the original animated version is100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, whereas JC's version is Rotten.

youtu.be/vjnqABgxfO0Well, it seems the “campaign” against this and pro-Carrey is a) very few people doing noise or b) focused on Twitter.

Sorry, but that rate is awful.
Just check other Illumination videos.

I’m comparing with REAL negative campaigns like Ghostbusters. I remember Venon, which trailer was ACTUALLY awful had a negative ratio (much more dislikes than likes) in its early hours but now it has changed. I could had imagined that a real negative campaign would had a more negative effect like it did with Venon. We will see in a few days when the Millenian kids stop moaning about their awful childhood taste in movies if it still the same or not. EDITED: If it helps it has a 94% in audiences intention to watch on RT: www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_grinchWe will see! Illumination’s “speciality” is to sell their movies with huge and powerful marketing campaigns which sometimes are more expensive bigger than the movies themselves. They are just beginning and I don’t think self-centered young adults are their targeted audiences.

This a big surprise! Kevin Smith’s producer is co-directing it! I remember originally it was announced it will be directed by the guy who did the early Gorillaz videos (a very left field hiring but TBH the new director also sounds very left field!) and one old Illumination worker who as producer designed a few of their movies and just debuted as director with a Despicable Me short included in one DVD and The Secret Lives of Pets.
