I wondered how they were able to predict box office earnings, so Deadline explained it like this:

I posted that above! 😉
They are already selling tickets, too.
It's a good projection. It suggest a $200-250 total box-office but I hope the numbers will get better: it's still early and the promotion seems to massively began just a few days ago.
I trust it will do better than the last version outside the USA.

Something struck me as incongruent in this article - why would a rival distributor be beaming about The Grinch being a "true four quadrant" film? Is it that a rising tide floats all boats? But I wouldn't expect a rival to be so joyous about this film because if The Grinch is that much of a widespread success in all 4 quadrants, then it might suck the oxygen out of the room for that distributor's film? Just struck me as an odd thing for a rival to beam about? 😊

I spent some time today reading twitter comments about how terrible this movie will be. People really seem to have something against Illumination! And they’re blaming Illumination for forcing Benedict to change his voice for this role. And there’s a certain amount of anger that anyone had dared to remake the Jim Carrey version. Someone came to Benedict’s defence and said that he was allowed to make one bad movie in his career.
And all of these comments are before the movie even comes out!

Yes, Illumination is very hated. I don’t put too much attention on its films but I had read negative comments on social media and forums against their movies in the past. I guess they hate the studio because a) they spend massive amounts of money on publicity instead that on films; b) they aren’t Disney; c) they are massively popular everywhere.
People who think Jim Carrey’s movie is good doesn’t have any credibility judging other movies. It doesn’t matter if they watched them or not beforehand! 😉
