How do they have weekend box office totals when we’re only half-way though the weekend? It's an estimated. It could go lower or higher. Usually they are very good calculating it, tho. Anyway, Deadline is suggesting it could be better considering tommorow is a holiday.

I wonder if the fires in California are cutting into the Box office. I can’t imagine that it’s helping.
Oh, and Scott Derrickson’s been posting pix of his burnt down house on Twitter. He’s handling it tremendously well.

Yes, he is very zen about it. It should help that he surely has enough money to rebuilt his house (someone from lower classes would have his/her whole life destroyed by something like that) but it’s still something horrible.

fortune.com/2018/11/11/grinch-brings-holiday-cheer-with-decisive-box-office-victory/Someone remember those articles with headlines saying BC’s career was over because TFE bombed? And I said headlines because they were actually in question form and they were discreetly answered in the actual text with: of course not! But the awful and nasty clickbait headline were still there! I haven’t seen any articles yet but I have seen comments speculating if Claire Foy’s career as a leading lady is over because ‘Spider’ and The First Man failed at the box office!

The Deadline article is fascinating! I had no idea that there are people analyzing everything about the movie (and all movies), from who was in the audience, to the number mentions on social media. They found that one of the draws to the movie was Benedict, which is interesting considering that one of the negative reviews I read yesterday blamed “drastically miscast” Benedict for the movie being so bad.

Yes, they analyze everything. They are paid by studios and most of it, it’s internal information. Some people say it’s an old system and that it doesn’t work anymore but CinemaScore was created for executives to know how their movie is being received, for example.
There are a few systems that measure actors popularity or how much they are beloved by audiences. Right now I remember Q Score. It could be a little cruel. I remember how once Variety or Hollywood Reporter published how when asked I think about the Steve Jobs movie people said they weren’t interested in watch it anymore when they changed DiCaprio for Michael Fassbender. The project lost interest just because the main actor.
I was also happy when I saw that they mentioned BC as one of the factors that audiences on social media liked most about the film.
