Board is v quiet and not much on the news front. So thought I would try something to liven things up. Of course tumbleweed may ensue but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I’ll start. There nothing is BC isn’t excellent in but my three particular favourites:-
Parade’s End
I thought he was sublime in that role. Christopher was a character you sometimes wanted to hit with a brick because his strict code of conduct made his life so miserable. Yet you still found yourself admiring his innate decency, liking him and wanting him to be happy. A really hard role to play but BC nailed it.
Patrick Melrose
I can’t add anything to the superlatives that have already been deservedly used to describe his performace. It was simply peerless.
Sherlock
I know it’s kind of a thing to overlook Sherlock and go for other roles in response to questions like this.
But I think it has to be in the top three. His performance made him a bone fide star, reinvented a classic character with huge success, made the show an all time great piece of TV history ....... and he was also downright sexy in the role - which is always a welcome bonus. 😀

Well (rubs hands together), in addition to your very excellent choices, (which I completely agree with), I’d like to add some voice work.
Cabin Pressure. His poor, addled Martin duCrief is just so perfect! I love all of it, from his panic stricken moments, to his confusion when Theresa gets all sexy on him, to his righteous indignation at being ignored (I am the supreme Commander!), it’s all splendid comedic timing and great fun. Brilliant!
The Grinch. I know it’s a silly movie, but his voice work is so well done, from his boredom to his mania (evoking Margaret Hamilton), the way he talks to Max, the way he says “I wore a tie,” it’s just so good.
Ode to a Nightingale. Deep, sexy, languid. “Ah for a beaker full of the warm south...” Rawr! 😍
When he goes deep with his voice it turns my insides into jelly. 🤤
This isn’t voice work, but I have to give a shout out to his Edmund Talbot. Ben carried a huge film at a very young age, and got to do *everything!* Romance, action, drunkenness, more indignation, pompousness, befuddled, concussed, I could go on forever. And he was perfection - believable, likeable, and damn cute.

I love them all, but my favorite performances are Frankenstein, Sherlock, Patrick Melrose, Hamlet, Wreckers, Atonement, Hawking and The Hollow Crown. Too long of a list, but it is hard to narrow down. My all-time favorite project he's ever done is Cabin Pressure.

Oh, it so difficult to choose favourite... there are so many! Maybe we should talk about the least fovourites ones? My would be the Other Boleyn Girl, Black Mass and TCW Unfortunately, in TOBG and BM I think most of his performance ended up on the cutting room floor, so there’s not much left to critique. But, yeah, those movies weren’t very good in general. But I still think he did an excellent job in them (perhaps I’m biased, lol). I haven’t seen TCW yet, so I can’t comment, although from the bits that have come out, it looks good to me. I love him dirty and rumpled, and the plaid (pronounced played, lol) suits/costumes make me weak in the knees. A period drama is right in my wheelhouse so I’m looking forward to it. No one has mentioned his Oscar nominated role yet! His performance was wonderful and heartfelt (as usual), but I thought the film was cliched and kind of weak. Not a bad script, not terrible, but imo it could have used another rewrite and a lot more bite.
