Oh goodie!
Looks like DS will go past the $700 million worldwide mark shortly!
The last I looked the WW total was at $664.6 million and since the domestic marketplace for DS has really slowed to a crawl I would think that this latest jump is do to the Japanese numbers, meaning that the $4.3 million "-ish" increase is largely Japan based in origin.

Dr Strange has done so amazingly well. I'm really pleased for BC as I think it's well deserved. I saw it advertised tonight on Sky so it will be coming to Sky UK this month. Don't know if it's already available on TV in the States. I hope it gets to $700m movie box office takings even though it being on TV might make that difficult.

According to Julaerenee on Imdb, it started a second run in US. She already went to watch it.
I think that one thing that played against DS was that Disney released many movies: Moana, Rogue One and there was another one that I can't remember now.
It is a pity that Marvel didn't advertise it more in the UK and rest of Europe.
Fantastic Beasts made like 100 millions more than DS outside the US and DS made 24 mi more than FB in China.

Maybe. But I think DS did incredibly well by any standards and way better than expected even by Marvel I reckon.
FB was inevitably going to do really well because of the link to Harry Potter but overall I got the impression that it didn't do quite the huge business that had been expected by some industry analysts.
Anyway I doubt DS & FB audiences are quite the same. I have t seen FB but I'd imagine it was pitched at a slightly younger audience than DS.

I really didn't pay attention to FB but I looked at its BO and it did rather well worldwide, more than 800 mi.
I was expecting 600 mi for DS so for me was excellent. But, who am I?

It's done so well, especially for a character that--while he's been a fav of mine going all the way back--was not well known by the general audience, that I'm surprised there hasn't been an official announcement of a sequel.

I still remember when MOS came out and it was like an event cinema. And little mister doctor beat that! Wow.

Here's a nice little write up about the film's performance: Movie Pilot - Doctor Strange Sling Rings Past Man of Steelincluding a section on possible reasons why it may have performed so well. One of the possible reasons will come as no surprise to folks here: It seems to be doing pretty well in Japan since its release, sort of the icing on a cake that was pretty good already! HT to AnIndoorKitty on tumblr for the heads up about this article.

Thanks for that write-up Hannah. I think Marvel/Disney did a clever marketing ploy by scheduling the second run theatres now. Just when the numbers were dwindling in the big theatres they have given a fairly substantial boost to the DS BO this past weekend. I see on BOMojo that DS numbers went up by over 4% in the actuals over the estimates (and it's theatre count increased too). DS was expected to haul in $228,000 this past weekend but instead it did $237,287. That now sets its domestic total at $231,910,330. And its Worldwide Total now = $670,051,882 :-))
