I’ll be glued to the screen, ready to throw up, scream, throttle my cat, eat too much chocolate, and generally die. 😃👍🏼 Me too! Other than the part about the cat, because I don’t have a cat - but definitely the rest!

TBH I stopped watched that H trailer at the moment they suggested the story written by a real closeted gay that captured all the fury and self-loathing a man can feel when repressed his sexuality was a “trope”. I’m sick of that criticism that only can come from a very privileged place like social media. They aren’t funny just repeating stupid criticism by spoiled kids from Twitter.
EDITED Seriously, what they wanted? That they changed the story and make Phil not homophobic or not gay? Or not adapting an actual queer story by an actual gay writer and let it been forgotten in time because a real psychological trait is considered a “trope” by some kids on Internet! I mean Brokeback Mountain wasn’t written by a gay man, TPOTD was but apparently gay voices should be erased in the name of “diversity” when they don’t fit a series of cartoonish demand of people who see the world in black and white!

I like to imagine worst-case scenarios to ease the pain of a possible let-down. I think that to me, the worst case would be TPOTD not winning any Oscars after getting 12 nominations. And CODA winning all the Oscars it’s nominated for. And King Richard winning the rest.

Coincidentally, I just saw this:
Imagine if this happens! I haven’t watched neither (I’m waiting for DMC release here on MUBI next week)so I don’t have an opinion but it seems this is a more accessible movie.

They showed the trailer for Yak in the Classroom when I went to see TPOTD last week. It looked really good!

I mostly watched the Oscars during the 1990s and early 2000s and I remember that Best Foreign Language films were good. A lot of the time much better than the Best Picture winner but not THAT good. I mean there were always something more excited and revolutionary that they failed to award. I checked the winners and nominees around that time and I think, for example, that they ignored a lot of Asian cinema that was much better than the winners. For example, Raise the Red Linter was better than Mediterráneo; Farewell My Concubine, The Scent of the Green Papaya and The Wedding Banquet (Ang Lee debut!), all in the same year, were much better than Belle Époque! Probably the best winner in the 1990s was All about My Mother (I don’t think I watched Journey of Hope and I kind of remember Burn by the Sun but I’m not sure if I really watched it or not, tho.).
In the 2000s, I noticed that both Aki Kaurismäki and Zhang Yimou lost to a very conventional movie like Nowhere in Africa even when they were competing with important films in their very acclaimed careers! Lol

I watched a few minutes of the Oscar pre-pre-show. It’s too early for celebrities to be there, so they’re mainly showing clips of interviews and just standing around talking to each other. All six of the reporters/interviewers agree that Troy will win best supporting actor because he’s been so much fun during the campaigning! I don’t remember anyone ever saying that Anthony Hopkins won because he was fun.
And they all agree that it would be shocking if CODA doesn’t win best picture. One woman said that she originally had West Side Story in first place, but now no one is talking about any other movie but CODA.
I was starting to feel a bit sick listening to that, so I’ve turned it off. I’ll wait until the actual red carpet interviews, where they at least pretend they’re rooting for every actor they speak to.
