Maybe we can get interviews, magazine covers and talk-show appearances as we wait for the movie release?

Also, don’t forget he also has Louis Wain so we will have double fun!

I watched Annette from Leos Carax and the Sparks Brothers.
It is super weird. Initially it bored me a bit but it got weirder and I liked it.
Adam Driver is excellent.

I like Leos Carax but I was perplexed when his movie was predicted for the Oscars. I know it’s produced by Amazon and it has Adam Drive but he is far away from being an Oscar friendly filmmaker.

I just have this thought: I don’t think the Oscars are THAT important at the end of the day in relation to the legacy of a film or a filmmaker. Actually, it could be detrimental, especially when something it’s good but not revolutionary; but I would love to see both Campion and Maggie Gyllenhaal nominated at the same time. It would be wonderful because they are both obviously women (and at least Variety is predicting that there aren’t any female candidates! Lol) but also because it’s Campion and one of the most intelligent and talented actresses of today and I really wanted to see her triumph. If someone suggests it could be a great filmmaker it’s definitely her! I like her brother and their father is a respected filmmaker but she is definitely my favorite Gyllenhaal!

Remember when there was a rumor that BC would play Prince Charles in Pablo Lorrain movie? Imagine that! BC would have to two hyped films in Venice! But you all were against it! I was the only one who wanted it! Lol
I just wanted to comment that’s interesting that the two Larrain films in English are about two charismatic and beloved female icons who weren’t exactly leaders and could be seen as frivolous for a lot of us but he just humanized them and presents her troubles like something universal. Bigger than life women. But in Spanish, he is mostly interested in the little men (not women) who watch some important historical moments just pass in front their eyes. They are just footnotes and forgettable individuals but very significative for showing how little all we are and how there are something bigger than ourselves.
I also recently watched El Club which it kinds of departs form this dichotomy. It’s a very disturbing little movie (it doesn’t have the scope of his other more popular films), about a group of priests who are kind of exiled by the Church for having abused kids and a very traumatized and disturbed man who wants revenge. It’s excellent but also extremely shocking and sick. It couldn’t be more different of his English films!
