This looks beautiful. Although I'm kind of tired of the b/w movies trend.

Isn't this video the same they had already showed? It is full of big stars. I don't find it funny but it's just a minute. I don't like the red hair on JLaw. Meryl looks beautiful. Leonardo looks like himself when he's on holidays.

This tweet confused me. I thought this movie doesn’t look anything like Fellini nor Campion! It’s just the director naming her favorite directors…and Netflix sneakily promoting that other film, too!

The "narrative" thing in awards fora always bothers me. Like BC going full method for the first time has to be a "narrative" for garnering attention and not a simple fact.
But I found this today.
There were only 8 male actors nominated in movies directed by women. From AW:
Only 8 & no one from last decade!
Giannini for Seven Beauties (1975), by Wertmüller (1976?) Hurt for Children of a Lesser God (1986), by Haines Hanks for Big (1988), by P. Marshall De Niro for Awakenings (1990), by P. Marshall Nolte for The Prince of Tides (1991), by Streisand Penn for I Am Sam (2001), by J. Nelson Murray for Lost in Translation (2003), by S. Coppola Renner for The Hurt Locker (2008), by Bigelow
0 wins.
I'm sure BC is not going to campaign too much but I'd like him to do it. And they could use this.

I would say that William Hurt was supporting but no, I checked and he was lead. I remember a lot of that film was from his point of view but it’s the kind of character that it’s sometimes put on the supporting category because he didn’t have the meaty part there. Or at least, that’s what I remember! Probably I watched that movie 30 years ago! Lol
Also, I’m don’t think anyone of them won, doesn’t?
Also who Jane Campion’s actors have been nominated?
Holly Hunter Anna Paquin Barbara Hershey
Those aren’t actually too many! Her movies are full of great performances but she isn’t very lucky with awards and her movies aren’t actually very well-received at the beginning but they are always re-examined and acclaimed years after its release. That’s why is very exciting right now! Not since The Piano, it has been such a warming reception for one of her films and BC is the star!!!!
About BC, it’s not true that this is his first Method acting. It’s his first time in a movie but he did it for Katie Mitchell before in theatre. Interesting enough, both times with women directing him. There is a lot of talk on social media about how Method is such a macho thing to do and how actresses just do their jobs and don’t do crazy stuff because they really talented and not psychos like men! But female directors… they are another thing! 😉

There are women actors directed by women who were nominated and won. It's men directed by women who are not nominated and not one won. It isn't that strange considering that the number of women directors and pictures by them competing for awards is so low.

I would say that female directors like Campion are/were more interested on stronger female roles but of those nominated men (I haven’t watched Seven Beauties so I’m not counting that) only Hurt had a female co-star with a much meaty role and she won the Oscar. Nolte was directed by Barbra Streisand, who is a huge star and costarred the film but she gave to him the interesting role.

I have seen a few people very excited with it and already claiming Del Toro will win the Oscar for his amazing directing on it and yeah, it looks good and I’m sure the film will be very well-done but TBH it also looks a little conventional for him, doesn’t? He is an amazing visual artist, especially when talking about production design and makeup and very often his films look unique but in this case, it doesn’t. Of course, this is just the teaser and it seems to me this story doesn’t need his usual baroque sets and special effects but people are reacting like if the trailer was showing something never seen before. At least, the very few I saw!

It looks gorgeous.
The cast is excellent. I -who don't know the book/picture on which it is based- didn't get nothing about the story from the trailer except that it seems to happen in a fair and it is a horror movie. I hated The Shape of Water. And Crimsom Peak didn't seem to have nothing to say. I miss Del Toro older movies like El espinazo del diablo and El laberinto del fauno which had more to them than just being horror movies.
I hope it is good.

I saw this mention of TPOTD and clicked to see the conversation,
I, of course, don’t think it looks like shit but it seems to me it looks like something I have seen it before (and yeah, maybe a little Marvel/DC). It surprised me because he is a very visual filmmaker and, even when some of if his films could have some narrative problems sometimes, the visuals are always beautiful and original.
Of course, it’s only a trailer and I’m sure the film itself will look stunning but I was surprised with the ecstatic reactions. Maybe I’m wrong!
EDITED By the way, those shots in the tweet look beautiful but there’s something very familiar and common in the actual moving images.
