I think it was kinda difficult even when that article speculated about it. Cannes is pretty elitist and there is always a few names that are frequently included and it’s very rare when new names could break in. Young new filmmakers normally are first selected for the secondary sections for years before graduating to the main selection.
Also I don’t think there are a lot of British filmmakers, apart of a few veterans like Ken Loach and Mike Leigh, that are frequently included. Americans are Hollywood but also “cinema”, British filmmakers are “theatre” and, you know, Cahiers du Cinema/New Wave enemies! (I always find interesting that UK period pieces are considered retrograde and anti-cinema but when some French guy do the same and with the same “classic” style is cool. Not in the main competition and frequently the opener is a pretty bad movie but that Johnny Depp movie would probably be an example. I mean, sorry but Cannes award winner Maiiwenn is a really bad filmmaker!)

Yay! A movie to see at TIFF! My membership fee won’t go to waste!
I really hope the strike is over by then and the film festival is allowed to carry on.

My sister and I had already discussed that the next time I went to TIFF, she would come along and we would go to Toronto by taxi and stay in a nice hotel. No more taking scary trains or busses late at night!

How about the Royal York? We stayed there in February and it was MARVELOUS! I felt like royalty! We're staying there again when we come back from the South Pacific. Isn't it just down the street from the area where TIFF headquarters?

As long as the hotel is walking distance to the theatre, any hotel would be fine. The last time I went with my sister, there was a great restaurant in the hotel, so we’ll probably look for that again. And one time when we were far from the theatre, I didn’t think that mattered because I could just take a taxi. That worked out well when going to the theatre, but returning to the hotel later that night was a problem. I had to walk quite far to find a taxi because it was so crowded with people near the theatre.
It’s still a couple of months away, so I won’t worry too much about it yet. Now, I just have to hope that Benedict somehow decides to show up!

Isn't it a British production? At least the producers are the BBC, the BFI, SunnyMarch, I don't know the others but it isn't produced by any big studio, I think. So, if they're letting productions from A24, for instance, go on filming and Gretta Gerwig continue her promotion, I think there is a possibility of BC going there..
Also Sophie is a producer.
I just saw this: Ethan Hawke’s TIFF selection ‘Wildcat’ secures SAG-AFTRA interim agreement.
"In theory there should be nothing to stop international talent from attending and performing promotional work if their films are not from struck companies. "
