I got home about half an hour ago, and I’m exhausted! It looks like everything has been posted already by other people, so there won’t be much for me to add. I took some pictures and a video, and as soon as I figure out (again) how to get them off my phone, I’ll share them with you! I’ll write my little review tomorrow. I haven’t read yet what’s been said, but I hope people liked it. I did! Here’s a preview with some spoilers: Benedict was on for more than two minutes, which someone had said. I didn’t look at my watch, but I think maybe 10 minutes?
If we still have that checklist of stuff he does in his movies: He gets drunk. He dances. He cries. And shockingly - in a movie full of water - he doesn’t get wet!

I’ve been trying to post the one video I took, but of course it won’t work! So I thought I would put it on Twitter, but that no longer works. According to the lengthy instructions, you can upload videos from an iPhone or iPad to Twitter. Otherwise, you need a Premium Twitter membership to upload other formats of videos. I’ll keep trying, but how annoying!

My 2023 TIFF experience Sunday September 10, 2023:
TIFF sent a scary email on Saturday night with a bunch of rules and reminders about attending the festival. They said that you had to be there at least 1/2 hour early, and getting there only 15 minutes early was too late because they start giving away the seats of those who haven’t arrived yet! What?? Well, that never happened. Not only did they seat plenty of late arrivals, the two girls in front of me arrived when the movie was more than half over.
I got to the theatre at 12:30 for the 1:30 movie, and the girl working there told me that I was the first to arrive. When I asked her about the red carpet stuff, she said that it was all taking place at the back of the building now. They must have done it that way last year, too, when I didn’t go. The girl told me I had time to go check it out, so I did.
At the back of the building was a little park that was completely taken over by TIFF. It was a central location for all the surrounding theatres, so all the streets were closed to traffic and people could wander in the streets. It was a warm, sunny day, and the area was packed.
I found the sign for the Fan Zone for TEWSF, and there were 5-6 people waiting, all wearing wristbands. I asked the girl working there if I could get a wristband, too, but she said they wouldn’t be requiring them because there weren’t many fans waiting, so I got in line.
It was probably 12:50 when they let us in the Fan Zone. It was a sectioned off red-carpeted area behind the TIFF banner, and we all took a spot. And waited. I had brought along my copy of the book, hoping to get it signed by whoever was there, but that didn’t happen. They had huge screens throughout the little park where they showed the red carpet arrivals for those who weren’t right there to see it in person. At 1:00, I could hear some yelling, so obviously someone had arrived.
The way they had it set up was that the cars dropped off the celebrities through the back, where they made their way to the area in front of the big TIFF backdrop you see in the photoshoots. From there, they are supposed to keep walking to the fans waiting in the Fan Zone.
On the giant screens, they were showing a bunch of people posing and waving from the red carpet. Since we didn’t know who we were waiting for, we had no idea that they were from TEWSF! So when they came around the corner, none of them came over to us because, I guess, they saw that they hadn’t gotten a reaction from us. So they just walked past.
I decided at the last minute to take a couple of pictures of them in case they were important. Ha! It’s funny that one of the men, a tall redhead, made me wonder if he was Adam Ackland, but then I dismissed the thought because there are lots of redheads in the world who look like him. But I was right - it was him! I had never seen him that close up before (he’s pretty cute!)
At 1:10, I decided to leave the Fan Zone and little park, and I walked back around to the theatre. I then got in line to first get my purse checked out by security, and then show my ticket on my phone. They had said that they would only accept electronic tickets this year - no paper copies.
I found my seat in the middle of Row R. I had a man seated on my left, but no one on my right (and no one in front of me for most of the movie).
The man beside me was with his wife and another couple, and they chatted before the movie started. At one point he turned to me and said “Well, are you ready?”. “Am I ready? For the movie?”, I replied. He said that he was ready, and I asked him how ready he was. I then took the book out of my purse and told him “If you haven’t read the book, can you really say that you’re ready?” He gasped and took the book, and got his wife’s attention and showed it to her. The four of them passed the book around to look at it. I told him that I had hoped to get it signed, but it hadn’t happened. He then offered to sign it for me himself, just so I can say that I got it signed. Ha!
I couldn’t believe it when the director was brought on stage and I realized that the group who had walked past us outside were the ones we where there to see! And then she introduced the others, including AA of course. The only video I took was of that introduction she did, and maybe one day I’ll find a way to post it!
After the movie, I walked for what felt like miles to finally reach a street where traffic was being allowed through, so that could call a taxi. I got a blister on my right foot from the sandals I was wearing that were meant for sitting and not for walking. While walking through the streets, I passed the exact spot where I was standing when I got Benedict’s autograph (as seen in my profile picture). Such fond memories!

I had tiny bit of success! I emailed this photo to myself from my phone. I took this from my spot in the Fan Zone. Way in the back, you can see the giant screen that showed a bunch of different things while I was there. In the picture, the screen is showing the image of Jodie Comer holding the baby in the ad for TEWSF. I also attempted to tweet a video from my phone, but it hasn’t shown up there yet! Ha!

TIFF has posted the Q&A that took place after the premiere of the movie. This is what I heard and saw that day. The “awkward” audience question is exactly the way I heard it - which is barely.
