I saw someone moaning about SAG giving permits to a lot of productions with huge stars while the poorest actors forced to stay unemployed. Well, surely those productions will have also non-stars actors and give employment to other guilds members but I can see their point.
Also a lot of those “indie”productions with major stars could easily end bought by Netflix, Amazon, Apple or other struck company.
It will be interesting to see what it’s announced tomorrow for Venice. No one is predicting “Henry Sugar” but we could hope. I don’t doubt festivals are losing a lot of films. Venice lost its announced opener because the strike and I don’t think they have announced the new opener.
EDITED Greta Gerwig case is interesting because she is obviously promoting Barbie as director but she is an actress. Of course, I don’t judge her and would completely being against her being bullied on social media but I haven’t seen anyone call her “scab” when I have seen British actors being called it because they are filming Equity productions!

I saw some disussions on twitter and on AW. There were people calling her scab. To me it's not important that she's an actress because she wasn't an actress on the movie. She is the writer, though. And although as director she can promote the movie, I don't know if she should as a writer. Same for Nolan. -
This is getting ridiculous:

They just announced an indie movie with Morgan Freeman and Kevin Costner, too!
It’s complex because I understand that for example A24, a powerful indie film company, isn’t part of the struck companies even when they are indeed powerful so it would be unfair to affect them. The same that with non American actors or even productions that doesn’t hired their actors with SAG contracts.
But the issue is that apart that it’s true that most affected actors will be the ones on strike/unemployed while powerful ones won’t stop working (and the sad truth is that it probably will be the same after the strike. Too many actors and very little roles), Hollywood isn’t what it used to be and even when the press is obsessed with huge comic book movies, streaming services could easily make a non American production a huge hit and survive without the American actors.

TIFF just posted their festival schedule. The End We Start From has its world premiere on Sunday September 10, at 1:30 pm. It looks like there are maybe 4 other screenings in the week that follows. It all looks so complicated to me - as usual! They’ve said that there are changes to how tickets will be sold this year, so that you’re not spending hours in queue, so I’ll have to figure out how that works.
The cast list includes Benedict. Did we know he was in it? Or maybe it’s just me who didn’t know!
There’s now a touchy subject that I’ll have to handle: on Saturday September 9, there is a bridal shower for my cousin’s son’s fiancée - in Toronto, where she lives. I already told my cousin that I likely won’t go because I really don’t drive to Toronto, and he seemed to understand. So how can I suddenly be able to attend TIFF the very next day??

He is in the cast but for what we know it could be just a cameo. He didn't spend too much time on set, if I remember well.

I just bought my Gala Presentation ticket for The End We Start From at TIFF, for September 10!
It’s been so confusing because TIFF has been sending out tons of detailed emails about the changes in procedure this year (so that they wouldn’t get complaints). But it all got overwhelming at one point. They sent out an “unlock” code the other day, and explained that I would need that code to buy the ticket when the day arrived, which was supposed to be August 24 - tomorrow. Then yesterday they emailed to say that they would be sending yet another email today at 9 am with further instructions on how to buy the tickets tomorrow. But the email they sent today had yet another unlock code, and they said the tickets would go on sale today at 10 am, not tomorrow!
I’m just terrible at figuring out the theatre seating chart, so I clicked on “best seats’ and went with their suggestion. Who knows? Maybe it will be a terrible seat! The hardest part of this whole thing was figuring out the code they sent. It was 10 digits, case sensitive, and a mix of numbers and letters, with some upper case and lower case letters. No problem - except that there was a “l” in the middle of it. I didn’t know whether it was the number 1, or the lower case letter “l”, or the upper case letter “I”. So I had to try them all, and the last one was correct - it was capital “I”.
I don’t even know if I’ll be able to go, but I hope so.

I finished reading the book today. It certainly didn’t take long to read, but there’s so much stuff going on around here (none of it pleasant or interesting) that I could only read the book in bits and pieces - which is how it was written, so it was fine.
I’m still hoping that I’ll be able to see the movie!
