About The Founder release date. This is the story according to Wikipedia:
Originally it was his "favorite" movie for the Oscars. At this time, it was scheduled for an August release.
He is always changing of mind.

They haven't yet updated the page, but according to IMDb, these are the other movies currently scheduled to open December 22 and will be competing with The Current War: Jumanji Pitch Perfect 3 Downsizing The Six Billion Dollar Man www.imdb.com/movies-coming-soon/2017-12/Someone left this very optimistic comment on the Entertainment Weekly's article about the release dates:

December 22 is still a good date, it may mean it's projected have great mainstream appeal. I think HW and other production/distribution companies often put a prestigious film that can also work well in the boxoffice to the cinemas for the Christmas hols - like the abovementioned Les Miserables, Tarantino films etc. Of course Dec 2017 BO will be dominated by The Last Jedi (Star Wars Episode VIII) which is released on December 15 but by Christmas people will want to see other films too. So it seems like there's hope for TCW to be a crowd pleaser which is good!
The bad thing about the date is that it disqualifies the film for some awards, I think SAGs at least if I remember correctly, which is why the major Oscar-push films are normally released in October/November. But it's still a good date.

Actually, I just looked it up and the SAG awards go by the calendar year, just like the Oscars. So any movie released in 2017 will be eligible. I think it's the Emmy's that go by the "tv season" of September to June.
A November release is considered ideal for awards because the movies are still fresh in people's minds when they're making their nominations. The movies would also have been playing long enough to be an established hit, and they might even still be in theatres. By contrast, a January release would have a harder time getting nominations for the following year's awards, although it's still possible, of course.

It's not disqualified. Some big studios release Oscar movies with big names around that time of the year (Eastwood, Scorsese, etc.) and they don't receive early nominations/awards simply because judges don't watch them at time but in other cases those movies are presented in festival or sent to the right people before the release date (that's most the Weinstein style).
A few years ago December and Christmas were considered the "perfect" date for Oscar movies. It was when they were by big studio and included big stars. Indie studios, particularly the Weinsteins, changed that with little movies with unknown actors and directors that needed to make a lot of noise to break in. That's how the modern concept of Oscar campaign born and one of the many reasons Weinstein is so hated!
I guess that's why Weinstein tend to put his movies with big names in December.

I just looked it up and the SAG awards go by the calendar year, just like the Oscars. So any movie released in 2017 will be eligible. The films released in December as qualified, but often the screeners for SAG members don't go out early enough. So even though a movie is eligible the voters will not have seen it, so it's a moot point. It's not set in stone or anything, but I read movie awards chat for the past few years and I remember this being an issue. This is what they say on the SAG FQA: www.sagawards.org/faq

I think if Weinstein is interested or think TCW can get an award - BC or Michael Shannon or other - he'll do screenings for the Guilds and send the screeners.
I don't know if BC or Shannon are interested in campaigning.
They surely won't get a chance at the GG.

If there is a campaign both the SAG and the GG could happen. The date is irrelevant. The movie could be shown in a few festival months before its official release.
The reason some end of the year movies aren't sent to voters is because the studios simply doesn't care about those particular awards. Again the examples are the big guns: Scorsese, Eastwood, DiCaprio, etc. Just with the names people know these are prestige movies they don't need to built any hype so the early awards aren't considered important.

This date refers to the membership address they have on file, so that you can notify them before December 1 with any changes. The For Your Consideration stuff doesn't go out in December.
