The For Your Consideration stuff doesn't go out in December. But the voting closes, well closed the last time, on January 13th as per that FAQ. The FYC stuff kind of has to go out in December so that the members will have the time to receive and actually watch them before the voting deadline. I don't know who chooses the nominees though, they were announced Dec 14th last year, so well before some of the films even open? I guess the people who pick the nominees are given special screenings but this can't be done for everyone who has a vote (there's thousands.) I think I may be confusing a few things here, I specifically remember some movies being left out of SAGs (Leo DiCaprio for Wolf of Wall-Street is an instance that comes to mind) cause they didn't premiere early enough. The SAG site mentions that physical DVD screeners must be ready and a final product by November 20 (2016.) But I think maybe some of those movies that have missed out have done so because they have been editing until the last possible moment.

Yes, you're right. I read a bit more about it, and the nominations will be announced on December 13. Voters will have from December 19 to January 19 to cast their votes. There are nominating committees (chosen at random) to decide who/what will be nominated.
The nominating committees wouldn't be expected to go out and watch every movie, so the release dates aren't that important. They would be sent the movies to watch. Also, many of the movies would have come and gone long before they even knew they were going to be selected for the committee.
It makes me wonder whether that's part of the strategy of a late-December release date: they announce that Benedict is nominated for a SAG award three days before the movie comes out. That would make me want to go see it (if I weren't already planning to see it, of course!).

I don't know anything about the awards hoopla from release dates to voting etc. I hope TCW is a good movie and I've no reason to believe it won't be. However BC has had such a run of tremendous critical and commercial success that I reckon we have to be prepared for him to be in something less successful at some point. The best of actors have a few "duds" to their name. 😊

If it is a good movie and has a reasonable box office, I'll be happy.

I'd be happy with that too.
I always thought Weinstein must have been pretty cheesed off that BC didn't campaign for TIG. And if he didn't campaign for that, I think it's incredibly unlikely he'll campaign for TCW either. It's not impossible that knowing that has influenced the choice of strategy re release.
This quote facility here is AWFUL! And you can't even remove the stupidities of it.

I think Wolf of Wall-Street is a good example of what I said above. If I remember well, yes, it wasn't ready but also I think the studio wasn't interested in SAG awards. They knew the popularity of the star and director was enough to attract an audience. Remember the hacked E-Mail conversation about American Hustle? Sony producers decided not to pay for an Oscar campaign because it was very expensive. Probably that was the case with Scorsese movie. Also you don't need too campaign too hard when you have big players in your movie. I'm sure that if Weinstein think TCW has award potential he would sent the DVDs at time! For now, it has a good release date for awards even when it's not yet finished! About BC campaigning he did it with TIG but he was busy, too so he didn't campaigned so hard as other actors, esp. as other Weinstein actors. He was "lyrical" about it (the funny line in The Guardian about having boundaries and can't walking away from the weirdness unscathed) but IMO he also was very polite and not as confrontational as other actors refusing (or saying they refuse) to campaign (Oldman, Fassbender, etc.) I can't imagine Weinstein not being happy with him even if he "didn't kiss all the babies he was asked to". I mean he travelled to do all those Q&A events during his weekends! How could Weinstein not being happy with him?

I don't understand this impression either. To me, BC did just about everything he could do publicity wise for TIG and still keep his busy schedule (he mentioned having such a full schedule that Sophie and he had problems coming up with an actual date for their wedding that didn't outright conflict with his commitments). So he didn't live in Hollywood and spend 24/7 on promos for an Oscar - is that considered doing no press for it?
The articles I have read for TCW seem to indicate that it and the religious one are the two front runners for the Weinstein company for the Oscars and I haven't seen anything that hints at TCW being the lesser favoured between the two. At least that isn't the way it read to me. As far as starting out slow and being in limited release - TIG was very carefully released before it hit its stride and it did well enough at the boxoffice, so I wouldn't be too concerned at this point about that. And a lot of awards type films don't do huge BO so I am not concerned about that either. I just want the movie to do well enough in the BO and to get enough recognition that it solidifies BC's "bankability" as a actor for future quality projects. And him doing that would also up Sunnymarch's stock when he brings it to the table for projects as well.
:-))

This quote facility here is AWFUL! And you can't even remove the stupidities of it. dreams, there are three ways of quoting. - With the Quote button, up right, beside the Reply button of the post you are answering to. It quotes the entire post.
- If you select (highlighten) a part of the post, then you should see a button (on the right) that says Quick Quote. You click on it and what you selected should appear below on the Quick Reply that now has all the same buttons as the Reply plus a Spoiler tag that works.
- If you want to quote anything without using the buttons just write [ quote]put your quote here [ /quote] without the spaces and you'll have your quote inserted.
Also to fix anything you have to click on BBcode (you have to be on Reply) and you'll see what you are posting and can fix it. You just have to change the text leaving the tags.

Magda - I'm not clear on what you mean by these instructions. I don't see a Quick Quote button. Other than quoting the entire post, the only way I've been able to quote just a section (like I did here) was by selecting it (highlighting it), copying it, and then pasting it in Quick Reply at the bottom. Then I select it again and click on "Quote" button. If I "Reply" to the message and try to do that, it doesn't work. It has to be "Quick Reply".

If you copy the part you want to quote, the click on the Quote button (beside the Smiley), then paste your copied text on the box.
