Can someone tell me if this has beaten the figures for the latest Tom Cruise movie (was it another Mission Impossible?). I'd really like to hear that it did, lol. Yes, it did. MI reached 370 mi. www.the-numbers.com/weekend-box-office-chart

Yes, now I have one more reason not to see it. Lol!
I want to meet it clear, I'm not judging anyone personally who goes to see this film. I'm judging the movie as it relates to only me and my tastes.
I realise my tastes have no bearing on anyone else's preferences and everyone has their own reasons for being in attendance (watching it on TV) and that's fine.
There have been rare instances where I watched movies that I had avoided like the plague because I had a fully conscious bias against them, but then did finally cave and found I was wrong.
The Social Network (social media), Rush (race cars), Moneyball (baseball) - all these movies I just wasn't interested in seeing them and when I finally did get around to watching them found them way more to my liking than I imagined.
So I mY be totally off base about Barbie but it does have a lot of minuses against it (and now to find out it's a musical - yikes!!!) for me to watch it.
But that's just me. For others, more power to them in their enjoyment!

I’m sorry - I was only judging the movie (which I didn’t see) and NOT the people seeing it and enjoying it! Despite how I sound a lot times, I’m not a movie snob.
I have a friend who won’t go see mainstream movies because she wants to feel like she deserves better. There are loads of wonderful movies that she’s never seen.
I loved the ridiculous Austin Powers movies! Ha! But I have a low tolerance for Ben Stiller, and I refuse to watch anything with Adam Sandler and other similar types of comic actors. I was trying to think of a movie I liked that I saw simply because a friend insisted on it. Strictly Ballroom comes to mind - my friend had rented it, invited me over, and said “You have to watch this!” It’s still one of my favourite movies ever. (That friend did the same thing with Dirty Dancing. But I was bored out of my mind and hated every minute of it. I didn’t tell her that, though, because she absolutely loved it). I went to see the animated Inside Out because everyone told me I’d love it. It was so long and so boring!
One thing I will say about this Barbie movie: I’m happy to see that a movie mostly aimed at girls and women is doing so well. We’re constantly bombarded with loud action/violent blockbuster movies, even if they’re supposed to be comedies, that are clearly meant for all those adolescent gamers out there. So I’m all for bringing dolls to movies and dressing all in pink (or whatever)! Good for them!

Hard to explain if you haven’t seen it. Thanks for the clarification, Ellie! I assumed it was because of the “I’m just Ken” number and there was a party/dance/singing thing? Anyway, glad to have that subverted, too, if that’s what happened.
