I don't think that's necessary because the awful truth is that there aren't a lot of female filmmakers. Again it's a problem that goes beyond awards. If more women would be hired by studios or projects by women were supported by producers then women would received more deserving acclaim.aAt least this seems to be happening so it's not that bad!
I saw someone proposing 10 nominees for the Best Director category. Probably that would had helped Greta Gerwing but if there aren't too many prospects then it could be years with just 10 men!

I know nothing about making movies, but if so many people are so sure that women directors are being specifically ignored by the awards, then yes they should have their own category. Awards might not be too important to us, but if they matter to the big studios, having a potential Oscar nomination at the end might be an incentive for them to hire female directors.

We will see! On the positive side, this should be a great moment for someone as Jane Campion to make a comeback! Her movies aren't an easy watch and she certainly suffered for it not just with audiences but also with certain film critics and award committees. Now she will be supported by Netflix and some goodwill by those wanting to champion female filmmakers! And BC is working for her!

The Academy posted this on twitter, then deleted it and apologized saying it was the predictions from one of their followers. I remember that the GG had posted in 2014 the nominated actors not in alphabetical order, with Eddie Redmayne first. Afterwards they corrected the list. So I'm guessing these are the winners.

A friend of mine saw Parasite and hated it. I haven’t asked her why, but I’m guessing that there was either a lot of violence or the mistreatment of women - or both.

Bong Joon-ho is a very political filmmaker. There's nothing gratuitous in his films. Everything has a political or moral message behind it. I haven't watched Parasite yet (I have seen a very few Oscar films this year!). He loves film genres especially monsters or horror movies but I can't imagine him being particularly violent or extremely cruel. I also don't think in him as someone problematic in the way he presents female roles at all!
Now Park Chan-wook, that's another story!

If that is so, they split the Best Picture and Director categories. That's unusual.

So when filmmakers campaign like hell is cool but when actors do half or least than that are just "desperate" for Oscars... And not I haven't seen any comment by this particular guy but award pundits tend to be very cruel especially about actors doing campaigns. Maybe it's just because he is a favorite so everything he does is cute!

They're weird.
