The worst thing is that BC was reluctant to campaign and didn't campaigning that hard. He straightforward said to a journalist that Weisntein wanted him to do it and that he was very insistent but he won't do it because he was attached to another project and just couldn't do it (he also told a fan he didn't WANT to but that wasn't "official", I guess). At the end, Weinstein kind of won but even then he never abandoned The Hollow Crown so he just campaigned during his free time on weekends! And just some weekends because he didn't went to the SAG awards nor the Luncheon for the official nominees photos. Yep, he isn't on the Offial photo! Scott Feinberg did this article about how hard actors were campaigning that year and BC was on the just half-time list! Then during the ceremony, he expressly said when asked about how difficult/hard was the campaign for him that he actually "didn't kiss all the babies he was told to kiss"! But still, he was thirsty for the award meanwhile Bong Joon Ho is so cool!
6 months? I love him but he could have done a big Marvel film during that time! Or a few small ones considering he doesn't want to do comic-book movies! 😉

I’ve been watching the Oscars all my life, and I think this was the most boring show they’ve ever done. I know that a lot of people complain about the thank-you speeches being too long, but I kind of like them - probably for the same reason I like to watch the end credits when I go to the movies.
I didn’t like the random people popping up to introduce other people. They did say their names, but I still don’t know who they were. I’m guessing they were actors, but in what? The only one I recognized was George MacKay. They should have had their names and movies written on the screen. To me, it seemed like they pulled people from off the street at the last minute, which was strange because there was a huge audience full of celebrities that I would love to have seen, instead.
And I really hate rap music, so having to watch two rap performances was torture for me. Yes, I know I could have switched it off!

I didn't watch it. I tried to follow on twitter but got bored and this morning I searched for the winners.
Independently that Parasite and Bong Joon-ho may deserve the award, it is clear, I think, that you have to go live in the US for six months and go to every festival and party to have any possibility. I wouldn't do it.

I wonder if Joaquin Phoenix did a lot of campaigning? He doesn't seem like the type.

I wonder if Joaquin Phoenix did a lot of campaigning? He doesn't seem like the type. I think Joker is the only best-actor nominated movie that would have had a “younger” audience, so those fans did all the campaigning for him. I liked The Two Popes, but I doubt that Jonathan Pryce had loads of fans tweeting about him the way Joaquin Phoenix did.

I wonder if Joaquin Phoenix did a lot of campaigning? He doesn't seem like the type. Perhaps it depends on being or not a well known actor/director? And the money the producers and distributor put in the campaign?

He campaigns! He did not went to the Luncheon but, if we are cynical, we can see all those ecological, pro-minorities pre-Oscars speeches as publicity. He was also arrested a few times during the race for participating in some protests.
Marlon Brando protested for the way Native Americans were treated in Hollywood at his time. He did not went to the Oscar ceremony and refused to accept the award. He, of course, provoked a lot of controversy and accusations of just wanting some attention. Phoenix did something similar at the BAFTAs except he publicly protested it meanwhile happily accepting the "unfair" award! Twitter loved him even when it seemed kind of hypocritical. That was the perfect moment to abandon the race but he didn't and kind of embraced the good press he obtained with the stunt.
I'm not saying there's not sincerity in his political speeches but remember that was the kind of things Weinstein was accused to do for awards.

Who needs Weinstein? They are lots of people doing exactly what he did.
