TLD was, imo, one of the best eps of Sherlock ever. I don't disagree. I'm just annoyed that because they always have to choose the Moffat episode some people involved in the show will never get their due recognition. Gatiss himself doesn't get the writing credit he deserves (this wouldn't annoy me so much if there didn't exist two co-written episodes, so those wouldn't exclude Moffat either) nor nominations for acting because he doesn't feature as heavily in Moffat-written episodes, Andrew Scott didn't get a chance because even though he's a BAFTA winner the episodes he was most prominent in were penned by Gatiss, Brooke will miss although imho she probably gave the best performances of series 4. I mean it's series 4, can't you spread the love a tiny bit already? Moffat already has a writing Emmy and his episode (HLV) won tons of awards a few years ago. I'm sure Gatiss himself isn't that upset over this lol but then again I doubt BC is loosing sleep over missing out for THC Emmy nomination either due to technicalities and still we are allowed to whine about it.

The roles and acting styles are so different in this category, it's hard to compare them. Riz Ahmed and John Turturro were both excellent in The Night Of, but they may cancel each other out. I'm sort of surprised that Michael Kenneth Williams and Bill Camp are not mentioned as possible supporting actor nominees.
DeNiro is always going to be a frontrunner.
I tried to watch Fargo, but couldn't get into it. I usually like Ewan McGregor, but not in what I saw of Fargo.
Of course, Benedict was excellent. The Lying Detective was my favorite episode of this season and one of my favorite Sherlock episodes of the entire series.

It seems that we have two Emmy threads going, so I'll put this here. These might be the clips they use during the awards on Sunday.

I guess I thought this tread was more for how specifically BC connected with the Emmys (because this being the Benedict Cumberbatch section of the Forum) and the other Emmy thread (being in the general TV section) would be for more general appreciation and appraisal of all the shows vying for the Emmys.
But since I am hear I will say that I, having seen all the performances of the lead actors in this category, still think that if it were up to me it would come down to a race between BC and Robert DiNero. The other actors were all very good and I wouldn't be terribly upset if any of them ended up winning, but they really can't touch either one of these two actors in the execution of the material IMO.
And if I was made to choose between RDN and BC I would go with BC because he showed such range and flexibility in the role of Sherlock within that one episode.
So BC for the win for me!
And while I am at it I really don't know why JR was nominated in the best actor category for his performance. Fine as it was the young Einstein was in the show for nearly 3/4 of the series and Rush was only a supporting actor as far as I was concerned.
:-))

I'm definitely pulling for BC. His performance in TLD was astonishing. It had humor, pathos, drama, screaming, quietness, intelligence, and depth. Gobs of physicality, which he pulled off flawlessly, close attention to the text, and sheer bravado. Plus, he looked gorgeous, lol. I will die on this hill come Sunday.

I just rewatched The Lying Detective - again. It's SO GOOD! I was a crying wreck for the last half hour of it. Surely the Emmy voters must be able to see just how special it is. I'm surprised that it didn't get more nominations. And I'm disappointed that it didn't win anything at the Emmy Creative Arts awards last week (it had two nominations).
I know that a lot of people are happy to see Benedict move on to other projects and leave Sherlock behind, but it has to return!!

I didn't follow the Emmy Creative Awards but I remember that when BC and MF won, Sherlock did it in a great way the weekend before in the Creative Awards. Award pundits said it didn't meant anything because they weren't related (the judges are/were different people, according to them) but clearly they were wrong.
