More polemic stuff: Gunn was fired by Disney for some bad taste tweets about rape and pedophilia from 10 years ago. Interesting enough this began as an alt-right campaign against him because they were angry for his criticism against Trump. The tweets were clearly jokes. At the time he worked for Troma and bad taste is their trademark (I read a pair of tweets saying how it’s import not to post inappropriate material because it can affected your job in the future and I thought: well, being inappropriate was his job then!). I understand Disney wanting to protect their image but it’s impossible they didn’t knew who he was. I understand Lloyd Kaufman himself did a cameo in the first Guardian of the Galaxy movie! Now there are Pizzagatte types trying to involve Kaufman in their crazy conspiracies because one of the jokes was a convo between both directors!
I remember that at the time people were celebrating the hiring of a left field director and now it seems extremist right-wingers are using the left-wingers tactics against them!
Who knows? Maybe there is something else but if it were just because the tweets then things are looking ugly for freedom of speech! Who is next? The South Park guys! They made a Troma movie, too. And absolutely love their bad taste jokes about pedophilia!
I read a tweet saying that what the world needs right now is more Troma movies and I say this as someone who hates Troma movies. He is so right!

I feel sorry for him. On the one hand, those types of jokes are usually not funny, and he probably shouldn’t have gone there. But he’s apologized for them 10 years ago. He says he’s grown as a person and wouldn’t do that now, and people who know him have stated thats not behavior he does, he was just joking about it.
It does seem a little two faced of Disney, though, if it’s true Johnny Depp hit Amber Heard and they keep him for their increasingly crappy pirate movies. I’m not sure that rumor is true, and Amber is some piece of work, so I try to stay neutral about it, but you think Disney could be a little more forgiving.
Hollywood sure is jumpy these days. Fallout from Me, Too. Not a bad thing, imo.

I saw this video the other day. Some people pointed out that not all these rules were being enforced. There was definitely a beheading at the beginning of Doctor Strange!

I know Disney make people sign some kind of morality contracts but the question is, Are they retroactive? Is Robert Downey Jr. in danger?
No way they didn’t know what kind of movies he was doing and promoting then! It’s hypocritical but also they are feeding right-wings conspiracy crazies! They were the ones asking for his firing and they and a few stupid left-wingers are referring to him as a pedophile! They are analyzing his participation or at least Lloyd Kaufman’s (who I don’t think they actually know who is) in pizzagate!
Who knows? Maybe there was something else we don’t know but it’s very worrying if all those ridiculous Tweetstorms from the left are know being used by dangerous people like these against Trump critics. It’s not surprising but very worrying!

I just read someone mentioning The Aristocrats! I totally forget documentary! It was very acclaimed at the time! How crazy that it was made just 13 years ago! What happened to the world?

I think the OTT knee jerk reactions to any example of bad behaviour have gone too far. All sense of proportion has been lost. It’s quite pathetic really that the level of independent thought and analysis has sunk so low that now decisions are made by how much noise the social media “mob” makes rather than proper consideration and due process.

The worst part is that it seems to be a political move by very shady people against a critic! Ironically this enviroment was created by the left (to destroy mostly other left-wings people). Now an extremist guy who once was formally accused of rape, Mike Cernovich (at end it was reduced to misdemeanor battery) is destroying a Trump critic for saying nasty jokes about rape! Words are worst than actions and actual criminal offenses!

For what I read Gunn had written more than 10000 tweets about rape, pedophilia and others. He deleted them and issued an apology like 6 years ago just when he was contacted or more or less to direct Guardians of the Galaxy. I didn't check all of this but don't you think it is quite possible that was done with Disney's/Marvel knowing? They possibly have an agreement about what was going to happen if the tweets resurfarced. Apparently he tweeted a link to a pedophile site. I think the tweets are/were horrible and Gunn was in his 40's back then old enough to know they were awful, not only in bad taste. I don't understand people defending him. Due process has nothing to do in this case. sgev1977 The comparison with RDJ's case doesn't correspond. He was a drug addict, he shouldn't even been imprisioned for that.

I have seen the Pizzagate types saying he tweeted more than 10000 tweets about the theme because he apparently deleted that number of tweets. I’m not sure if it’s true those tweets were about pedophilia, tho. I read somewhere there were also other offensive jokes about racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, etc. The point was to shock in general but Pizzagate types are obsessed with the idea that liberals are pedophiles (and Hillary Clinton is their leader!)
The link wasn’t to a pedophile site but to a harmless You Tube video. The “joke” was that it suggested otherwise.
I think people are “defending” him because the context. Yes, he was a grown up man but a grown up man whose job was to write awful jokes and aberrant scenes for movies which main point was to shock its audiences. He worked for a company in which bad taste was celebrated, pedophile jokes included! Not just that! When he was hired by Disney everyone was happy because they were taking a very daring move! I’m not a Marvel fan but I clearly remember the reactions!
Also at the time, Family Guy and South Park were doing a LOT of jokes about pedophilia. They were extremely similar to those! Yes, they were awful but he wasn’t the only one.
The movie I mentioned above, The Aristocrats has beloved icons like Robin Williams, George Carlin, Carrie Fisher, Chris Rock and others describing in detail the most disgusting things (including pedophila and incest) meanwhile they told the mentioned joke. I will confess that I never finished. I was scandalized and I couldn’t stomach it! But I never believed for one second that any of them were criminals and deserved to lost their jobs! They were just showing what shocking comedy was about.
I don’t compared him to Robert Downey Jr. because I think their cases are similars (What Gunn did isn’t even illegal! Making disgusting jokes is not a crime in the USA yet) but because in both cases it was stuff in their past. They work for Disney now and at least publicly they behave accordingly.
I understand why Disney wouldn’t want to work with a Troma guy because it goes against their image but to hire him and years later to fire him because what he did in past is very strange. I don’t know. Maybe there is something more but just for those tweets it’s suspecting. Especially, because alt-right guys are involve.

People get fired even if no crime has been committed, and people who have committed crimes get to keep their jobs. Way back when social media was new, my employer said they would never hire anyone who was on Facebook. Existing employees on Facebook were given a pass unless something objectionable was brought to my employer’s attention, and even then it was hard to fire people for something like that. Times have changed, and my former employer is now on Facebook!
Disney was absolutely right to fire anyone who wrote such disgusting things. Just like my former employer did, they were probably ok with looking the other way until they were forced to face it and do something about it. I don’t care if they’re just jokes. I’ve always thought there was something very wrong people who find that kind of humour funny. But should those people lose their jobs because of it? Yes, if it reflects badly on the employer.
